NEW 8 INTO 1 HEADERS
Discussion
Hi Guys: The headers are 1.75 stepped at 18 inches to 1.875 overall length of 39 inches. The headers are sequenced so that they follow timing order as they hit the collector. So each cylinder is firing into the vacant spot left by the exhaust flow before it. Greg Holman, The fellow that did these has been building headers since the 1970s his first use of this was in Gurney's small block chevy powered eagle. What Gurney was interested in was a smoother power curve to make the high powered small block more driver friendly. Sound familiar? Ed Pink a legendary motor builder here in So Cal and Greg conspired on the project and it worked. My interest in this generated from my engine builders involvement with Hass Racing's off road team. Yes, that Gene Hass, Hass has a pre-runner with an 8 into 1 exhaust on it and I heard the thing at my friends shop, wow, all I can say is that it sounds like a Ferrari with a set of balls. Not really loud at idle, certainly not a honda civic. A bit loud under full throttle but a pleasant to my ears loud. As soon as I get it back together video will follow. Lee
Staffno: No, not so much like the iconic GT 40 bundle of snakes. The bundle of snakes uses two collectors and equal length primaries and the cylinders are routed from side to side in firing order but there is a bigger gap between pulses because they go from header to header in my experience in owning a Pantera with such an exhaust they sound great at mid to high RPM but a little odd at idle. The 8 into 1, as I have been exposed to it, sounds great at idle and absolutely wild at higher RPM. Before some REMF (a military insult of grave proportions) comes on and says. Oh, I would never use that system the primaries are to long and your losing H.P. at high RPMs I will go on record and say in a perfect world these headers would have around a 28 inch primary and yes I maybe "losing" 3 or 4 Horse and a few lbs of torque but if the torque curve is less peaked and it makes the car a bit more friendly then the loss is worth the gain. The engine is red-lined at 7200 RPM, yes this is a serious LS motor. Lee
In the picture the piece of plywood is covering the mouth of the 8 throttle bodies. When the current mods are done in place of the plywood will be a shelf of yellow and black kevlar with the 8 black carbon fiber air horns passing through the sheet. The Dallar Indy car air filter is mounted into an air box which is constructed out of fiber glass and is now part of the hood. At completion when you raise the hood the air box goes with it and all you see are the 8 stacks and the kevlar sheet.
The cost for the headers was $4700, which is certainly not cheap but the construction and fit is absolutely first rate.
Indeed I will work on the video of the car at idle and under power when I am done but forget the high priced models, I live in Los Angeles, you think Ultima's are high maintenance ???????? Maybe I'll but my standard Poddle who's name is Kobe Bryant in the seat he likes car rides.
Yes, the standard type L.S. intake would be difficult to use with this setup, not impossible. Lee

I had no intention of selling my GTR. Than a friend decided to bail out of his GTR project after three years of work and barrels full of money. The car includes A upgraded FIA chassis an LS based RHS billet block with All Pro heads, a 996 GT2 transaxel and a full suite of the latest Motec offerings. His workmanship was first class and many of the mods there. My old GTR has a great new home in San Francisco with a guy that had owned a GTR previously. lee
