Chevy Engine & G50 Box

Hi, I have the opportunity to purchase a 5.7 litre Chevy engine with a G50 Gearbox which I intend to use for my proposed Ultima build. Being new to this world of high HP Chevy engines (I'm used to 70HP max), can any one tell me how I can age an engine,I'm told that it is a 350 block with the numbers 3970010 on the side?
Second question; the G50 box, should there be any numbers I should be looking for and are there different versions.
If neither of these are suitable please advise.

Hi Guy's,
I am even more confused, please put me out of my misery!
The numbers on the engine other than 3970010 on the side, appear to be 010.020.164 and on the heads its got Brodix.
As for the gearbox it has G50134770052 stamped on it, do either of these make sense and are they usable?
