Guys

Due to a serious engien problem on my crate LS3/480 i have been unable to attend my IVA test.
To say im P****d off is the biggest understatement ever.

Does onyone on this here forum know any LS engine specialists that can visit my poorly motor and diagnose the issue.

The problem thus far is:

Engine has been started and mapped on dyno.
Engine was lumpy and gave a max of 505hp, according to the guys doing this it was a poor result for the engine. as 530hp has been seen.

Since then the motor was dropped into the gtr, all sensor connected etc etc, however it now ticks over and revs for around 2 mins, then becomes extremely lumpy and goes into limp mode before shutting down completely.

With breather pipes and maf sensor connected on the engine it will not start.

We have conducted a compression test and all is ok, rocker covers removed all in order!

Things to note, if looking at the engine bay from the off side, the two banks towards the rear of the car cause the headers to glow cherry red very quickly, however the engine is runnign rich not lean.

All sensors have been checked, re checked, error codes have been checked only one present is a maf sensor error which we are aware of but not concerened as we dont believe this is the reason for the engine issues.

Anybody got any ideas, or had this issue, or know anyone i can turn to.

  • ***** *****, insist this is an install issue and will do nothing further to assist until i can prove an engine problem exists.

Yes they appear to be even across all of them, and from what im being told indicate that the engine is running a little rich.

Were being reliably informed that thi sis due to the cam, and air temp in and around the clip.
During mapping we have a big fan feeding cold air to the engine, it runs fine. Put it into the GTR and it hates the setup.

Ive got a guy coming to look at the mapping. ealry next week.

Standard ls3 works fine on my setup and install. however the more aggressive gm cam will not.

Well to summarise, we have decided to change the cam.
It appears without huge expense and time it is not possible to get the engine through IVA emmissions tests. I feel as though i have been severly ripped off by ** ***** *****. They knew this engine was going into my NEW UNREGISTERED GTR, and said nothing of known problem re emmisions. Now i have missed the IVA at my cost, must pay for the engine to be removed and now modified back to a cheaper version with less power. So i guess i technically have the most expensive underpowered ls3/480 possible to buy anywhere!!!

The emails i have recieved behind the scenes have been huge in detail and quantity, it seems im not the first or only person having problems like these with said supplier.

I must stress to anyone thinking of buying an engine and ecu or either from the above company please contact a few of us on here, there seems to be horror stories arising from everywhere.

Please do not waste your money here and use an alternative.

Im sure many have had a decent crate engine package from them, however a company is only measured by its back up service. There is none!

Hi Dave

Awaiting a price for a nice Cam, so will weigh it up then.
To be fair im losing motivation now, the road has been a long one, and this final issue has worn me down, to say ive the idea of Ultima ownership has lost its appeal is an understatment.

Nothing a quick drive wont sort out but im sure you know what i mean.

You forget why you started building them after a while, just need to enjoy the ownership part for a while i think.

Oh and a word of recommendation, stay standard!!!!!!!
Modifications are hassle!

Well guys and girls after ,much debate, we changed out the ls3 factory fitted - gm parts world supplied cam shaft and replaced it with a standard ls3 cam and a standard ls3 map - Guess what!!!!

Thats right the engine works a treat - idles beautifully, revs great and does an amazing job of sticking to fingers or 8 valves up at a certain supplier in cannock who claims it to be an install issue.

Naming and shaming rules bother me very little however it is extremely important to point out that if anyone buys an engine from a Cannock - staffordshire supplier, please beware!

We have now proven that the cam installed by gm and supplied by a cannock-staffordshire gm supplier is the fault, the supplier will not admit to this fault will not assist in anyway and will continue to sell you an engine that will not run correctly for our application, im sure it will fail in other applications but this as yet is unproven, many fellow kit builders using this engine are kindly sending me lots of feedback from their ventures with the ls3/480 all of which arent good.

Please dont go through the headaches, a standard ls3 with a carefully selected cam will work so much better, but to play it safe map a standard ls3 and see 480hp anyway!

I feel this pretty much signs off the issue! Next step first start again and re book PREP for iva again!!!

thanks for all the comments guys. This was one post i did not want to start.
