I’ve just ordered an Xbox One from Amazon.co.uk. I made sure to select a listing from a trusted distributor (Microsoft) which offered global shipping. It was 310 with free delivery to the UK, however when I checked out and entered my Thai address that price had gone down to 267 including postage.

So basically all they’ve done is knocked the VAT off and added a postage charge.

I have to assume, then, that there will be taxes and duties payable when the package arrives in Thailand- even though the chat room assistant on Amazon.co.uk explicitly told me that this would not be the case and that no further costs will be payable (I got a transcript of this conversation via e-mail).

Acknowledging that ‘if a deal sounds too good to be true it probably is’, what can I expect in the way of customs fees and tax costs when it arrives? Will I have to pay these at my local post office?

I’m not too worried about the actual cost, after some googling it seems 30% might be worst case which would still make it cheaper than a Thai market console from the shops… I’m more worried about the delay and the risk that I’m going to have to go to Bangkok or something to sort the fees out…

The order is being sent from Germany by DHL, it's a tracked service. Fingers crossed!

that is one confused X-Box, ordered from the UK, Shipped from Germany, Stolen in Thailand hehe
Bit silly, isn't it? I was worried about compatability when I brought it back into the UK.

It hasn't turned up on tracking so it hasn't been stolen yet...

ETA: By the way, my money went to Luxembourg. So it's a UK market console, processed via Luxembourg and dispatched from Germany, soon to be stolen in Thailand!

...or not! It arrived today, four days earlier than expected with nothing to pay. Happy days.

Back in the day it used to be PAL in Europe and Asia and NTSC in the Americas. This was the case for the PS3 and XBox 360. However the Xbox one doesn't lock games regionally this way anymore so I shouldn't have a problem. There used to be regional locking on DVDs and BluRays too so that's one of the reasons I wanted to get a UK market Xbox. The only disadvantage I have really is that Xbox live doesn't work in Thailand (without doing some kid of workaround).

I've been borrowing a mate's PS3 for the past three weeks or so, it's a UK (PAL) console. Thailand also gets PAL format games, so the copy of Gran Turismo I bought here in Thailand works fine in the UK PS3.
