Am in the process of pimping a room, new cream carpet, re plastering & painting walls, false cieling with dimming spotlights, 6metre by 3metre L shaped electronic recliner sofa (bloody expensive) etc.

For the cinema system itself I have ordered the new 80inch sharp LED tv:

https://www.zinc-ht.com/index.php/catalog/product/...

Amazing value for 4k I'd say.....! Same TV sold by dixons/john lewis etc for almost 5k so this is a good site if anyones interested....waiting time is approx 2-3 weeks!

And I have ordered this furniture for where the TV will be:

The only thing left now (and which I have no experience in nor understand!) is this whole sound system business......! What exactly is a reciver device? My main priority is extreme and deep bass... if I visit a currys/comet the top of the range system they have seem relatively small and at £600 (I have bought before) is really nothing special in my opinion! Can anyone recomend a website with a full sound system with impressive bass or extra bass boxes with controller unit/reciever etc for around 1grand? Am willing to spend more or less depending on bang for buck ratio! Any help appreciated!

Something like this perhaps.....?

http://www.johnlewis.com/231560885/Product.aspx?s_...

But how do you know without having to buy it, install it and fingers crossed hope for the best that the bass is amazing?

How does this look?

http://www.richersounds.com/package/speakers/speak...

Keep being told I will need a reciever and this has one plus pretty bass'y looking speakers....would this be a good shot? By the way on richersounds the same TV I am going for is listed at 4999.....1000 more than website I listed above! Is an amazing TV ..... I currently have a 70inch rearprojection JCV tv and the size increase plus LED technology will no doubt be amazing!

If you need 'extreme' bass, then you can't shop at Comet.

By the way, do you know that TV is not 3D? Was looking at it myself.

The Onkyo 809 in that deal is a great bit of kit. I have one myself, and in bi-amp mode drives very large speakers pretty well. However, if you want extreme bass, then it depends on the size of your room. I have a very big sub - B&W ASW4000 - and the bass is extreme, but these things do come at a cost.

What's your budget? If you've spent that cash on the TV, and you are serious about getting good sound, I'd be budgeting £2k as a starting point.

Also, the Onkyo 809 has just been discontinued - so you will certainly get a better price than the £999 rrp if you shop around.
Hi Justin - yup the smaller 70inch versions are 3D ready but im not a great fan of 3D and am more focused on size lol.
How much was your B&W ASW4000 ?

Depending on where you live you should go to Chertsey and visit Sculptured Sounds.

You need to look for a very decent surround amp with good stereo sound. I'm not going to go into that however the dealer will advise you.

With regards to speakers, you should be looking at a decent set of floorstanders, rear surrounds and centre. I have a B&W 684 home theatre set however for a TV that large, I would go the whole hog and get a 683 speaker set and a PV1 subwoofer.

What I wouldn't do is go to Richer Sounds. Sure they're great for amateur and they got me into hifi however they sell you what they need to flog at the time.

A specialist hifi dealer will (if good), advise you on what would be the best possible purchase within your budget and tailor it for your room, etc....

Of course if you're spending that much cash on a TV, I would probably invest in a B&W CM series HT set. I heard it in the demo room and it was magic to my ears! Having said that, the 684's aren't too bad either! wink

whats the price of that gear bud?

I can see the attraction but B&O tends to be very overpriced in terms of performance. It does look nice though but only if you have stacks of cash.

However, Gulzar, did you buy those speakers in the end?
Bloody hell was literally 4 hours too late by the time I replied to his ebay message with my number etc he said it was sold!

What do you think of these? Bit pricier but look nice...and im guessing half price what they would be new?

If you want earth shattering bass, then forget the PV1. I have 2 of them in my system and they are excellent, but are more musical rather than earth shattering.

Go for one of the BK subs for massive bass and a much lower price. If you have room, the monolith is awesome, but it is massive. Half the price of a pv1.

£1000 is just not doable for new kit really, but second hand you are in with a shot. Then upgrade as you go along.
Do you have a link to that monolith? And how much did that set you back and do you have any pics?

This? Looks very boring lol but it packs a big punch? So this can be hooked up to any reciever? and then I buy any speakers and hook it up to the reciever too and it'll all work dandy?

who had the TV in stock and at a V. good price plus 5 year warranty included! Will go and collect it on monday.....but bearing in my I havent even made a start on the room yet! A wall needs knocking down, carpet, replastering, false cieling etc etc....so perhaps I'll wait and try to demo some bits of kit and make the right choice! Was in harrods yesterday actually but was pressed for time just had a look at a 85inch tv they had there and christ it was massive....knock off 5 inches which would be barely noticeable and I can hardly wait! Thanks for all ur help and keep the suggestions coming!

My PV1's were bought second hand from a couple of audiophile mates, who'd hardly used them. I paid around 1300 for both if I remember correctly.

The nice thing about them is that the can be daisy chained if you don't have an amp with 2 sub ouputs, which is what I had at the time, but I upgraded to one with that capability and they sound much better that way, but they were still good before.

This is my current setup with the two pv1's.

I do have a spare pioneer amp at home which I upgraded. It's a 919ak and is damn good, but I went up a few price points when I changed it earlier this year! That sort of thing is probably worth around £300 second hand, then get a decent set of speakers for £350-400 (they won't be great for that sort of money, but adequate) and a bk sub and you'll get something quite good for around £1500. You are very unlikely to find a bk sub secondhand though. People like to keep them!

My system was originally made up of second hand stuff and as time has gone on, I've upgraded to new kit.

All in mine originally cost about £2k and if I'd bought it all retail, it would have been closer to £7k.
I really like your system it looks amazing and 7k for 2k sounds like right up my ally! lol I think I will be able to get two PV1 sub's for around 650 each on ebay - only white ones atm I'll wait for some gloss black ones to come up as that'll match everything else....what speakers exactly are they you have there in the pic? and which amplifier do you use to power all that?

Hi Gulzar. As a furniture maker of bespoke fitted cabinets, I'm in the process of looking into the furniture side of top end AV/hi-fi.

Do you mind if I ask what the cost of the furniture was? I appreciate you may not wish to and I fully understand so if thats the case. But even a ballpark figure would be of interest, and what (if any) they gave you as specification of the furniture. ie what its made of, finish etc.

Thanks, Warren.
Furniture was only 600! Needed assembling which took max 1 hour, included 4 cabinets with LED lights, a 2 step shelf which I didnt fit above tv as no space and 3 metre long floor table thing!
