Some of you may be aware that every summer Poole Tourism runs an event for classic & sports cars called Quay for my Car. They close Poole Quay down in the late afternoon & evening for an exhibition of specific types or marques.

http://www.pooleview.co.uk/CarQuay.htm

I noticed that there is no specific event for TVRs or British classics later than the 80's so emailed Poole Tourism.

The kind lady has asked me to get an idea of interest, and will certainly consider a TVR night, although they need to be sure that 50+ cars are likely to attend.

I've asked which dates may be potentials, but in the meantime, if each of you could reply to this topic to give an indication (date dependant) if you would attend? Once I have the specific date(s), I can come back and get firmer numbers.

well done Ashley....

c'mon South Coast Tiv'ers get your name down, as if I need to point out what a great location it is, not to mention the local countryside, plus there are bars, restaurants, nightlife and <ahem> eye-candy (for the singletons of course....)

If anyone is planning on staying, let me know and I can recommend a few good local places for B&B/hotels etc.

Closest reasonably priced hotel is the Holiday Inn Express, by Seldown Bridge, about 1/2mile from the quay or an easy 10min walk. Car Park is not directly beside any specific "track" frequented by night-low-life, so should be low risk of any vandalism, although being nearer the town centre there is always a slim chance.

There is also a Premier Inn at Holes Bay. About 1 mile away. Again cheap, large car park, quite some way off the night-life "track", so pretty low risk of any vandalism etc.

The QuarterDeck hotel is also reasonable, but a bit more than the above two places. Next to Poole Park about 1m from the quay.

There are a few inns & B&Bs on and around the quay, but none that I know of have offroad parking due to the nature of the old town. Best stick to those above.

If camping is your preference, then there are a few options but further afield. Rockley Park in Hamworthy may allow camping (not certain), but failing that there are campsites about 3-5 miles away near Lytchett Minster. I believe South Lytchett Manor Caravan & Camping Park has a good reputation.

Given that we were at 15 confirmed within 24hours, I updated Poole Tourism with progress so far, and the lady has come back and said she'll therefore take a risk that we'll get to 50, and has just confirmed July 27th as a TVR night! It will be on their website shortly (but as of posting, not yet).

http://www.pooleview.co.uk/CarQuay.htm

Woohoo. Another formal TVR event for 2012!!!

So let's get rattling those TVR networks and get EVERYONE down to Poole for the evening.

I'll contact the TVRCC as well, so that the event can be added to their magazine.

Just wondering if we should gate-crash the Porsche event to show them what they are missing? haha (joking....)

Great response guys. We're almost halfway there, only 2 days into requesting numbers!! Amazing!

Keep spreading the word- this could turn into Chatsworth 2 wink

Yes I have....I was born in Poole, and live in Bournemouth wink

Bear in mind that they actually close the quay on the evening for this event, and "unrope" the limited parking, so we'd have the length of the quay from outside Corkers, up to the roundabout by the old Pottery. I know it's not enormous, but certainly plenty of room for 50 carefully parked TVRs. Although I like the idea of the barges, but won't be volunteering my Cerb for a swim......smile

Anyway, as we increase the numbers more, I'll be working with Poole Tourism to further advertise the event, and we can sort specific logistics nearer the time.

So far, we're looking good!

Thanks Olly for the post on the TVRCC. Btw - lovely day today, so maybe taking a spin over in the Purbecks later. Just need to nip to Motobitz and get some Xenon filled bulbs to replace the candlesticks currently installed.

The link to the Quay for my Car event is here:

http://www.pooleview.co.uk/CarQuay.htm

According to the website, the event starts at 6pm Friday evening. I'm sure a few people, like myself will take the day/afternoon off, and pootle on down earlier for a bite to eat before attending. Let me know if you want any restaurant recommendations.

Latest update, is that the Quay for my Car website will be updated today to show the event.

The quay has capacity for 80-85 TVRs according to Poole Tourism. So let's pack it out, and, ahem, perhaps once everyone has arrived, say at 7pm we can do a synced "Engine start" and a short blip "crescendo", for each of the various makes, like a TVR engine concerto.

laugh

For example:

7.00pm-7.01pm - Pre-80's classic models
7.05pm-7.06pm - 80s Wedges & other models
7.10pm-7.11pm - Griffiths
7.15pm-7.16pm - Chimaeras
7.20pm-7.21pm - Cerberas (bound to be the noisiest)
7.25pm-7.26pm - Tuscans
7.30pm-7.31pm - Tamoras/T350s
7.35pm-7.36pm - Sagaris
7.40pm-7.41pm - All cars in the orchestral finale!

woohoo

Perhaps, but the part of the quay involved doesn't have much in the way of residential property, and is mainly bars & restaurants. It would certainly get everyone's attention!

Hi all, quick update - I've added a Facebook event (oh no what have I done?) hehe

You can either search for "TVR night - Quay for my Car" as it is a public event, or you can follow this link:

http://www.facebook.com/events/336880133025432/

If you're on Facebook, it would be good if you add yourself as an attendee, whether or not you're a TVR owner.

I'll keep posting updates on here, as well as on Facebook.

It is indeed, although an indication of how likely you are to turn up would be good as the Quay has a max of about 85 cars.

Just seen a Poole Tourism flyer which advertises, among other things, the Quay for my Car event. The TVR night is listed, which is great, so here's to a sunny 27th July and lots of interested locals & holidaymakers!

The details of timings etc will be released nearer to the event. All that is known at the moment, is that cars will not be allowed to get access to the quay until 6pm or later.

As a guide, typically, many exhibitors have printed histories of their cars laminated and displayed in the front windscreen.
