RUTLAND RUMBLE
SATURDAY 11TH APRIL, START TIME 2PM, END TIME... various (based on 2014!)

This is a run to the West of the A1 on the rolling roads in England's smallest county, Rutland.

Until several years ago the Rutland Rumble was an annual event which became popular with local TVR owners. It was revived in 2014 as part of the Burghley Horsepower weekend.

The run will start and end at The Royal Oak, Duddington near Stamford. This is conveniently located close to the Peterborough hotel (15 mins away) and the A43, A47 & A1 if you are travelling from further afield.

If you would like lunch before the run starts please contact the pub on 01780 444267 and mention the TVR Car Club to book a table (regardless of whether you want a full 3 course meal or sandwich) so they can monitor numbers and make sure you have sufficient time to finish your meal before the run starts. The bar will also be open for drinks when we return at approximately 4pm.

The nearest petrol stations are in Morcott, Stamford, Corby or Peterborough. Please:
1. make sure you have a full tank when you arrive, and
2. park responsibly at the pub to avoid inconveniencing the villagers and other customers of the pub.

In 2014 66 cars turned up. You can see some photos here.

There were room for a few more but so that I am aware of how many cars there are likely to be I would be grateful if you would add your name below if you are interested in attending. If you email me (ian.longden@fasttracktours.co.uk) I will send you a GPS file, directions and a route map/notes nearer the time.

Cheers,
L'rs

Daz
Daz, and everyone else who has emailed me (which is a lot of people, too many to reply to one by one!)

I am planning on emailing the details tomorrow evening. I'm hanging on as long as possible so I can cover as many people as possible in one go wink

Sorry to be a pain but I am now making the assumption ( probably wrongly! ) that I may have been left out. To be fair I haven't emailed you but I am on the list. Do you require individual emails from everyone on the list to receive directions?
The short answer is yes, so email Longers through his profile.
Thanks QBee.

It is not possible to attach things to emails sent through profiles and even if that option existed I certainly haven't got the time to email each person one at a time! Do not worry Lone Star, I've received your email (plus a few others) today so will reply to them all in one go this evening wink

Some important points

Last year there were 50 names in the forums and 66 turned up. This year SO FAR there are already 67 in the forums so with maybe 80 cars or perhaps even more turning up on Saturday, subject to the weather behaving, please please please read and remember the following:

  • Be patient. I and some "willing" volunteers will get everyone parked... somewhere!
  • Make sure you do not block access for local residents or other customers of the pub if you do need to park on the road.
  • If on the road, please park facing north so the pub is on your right hand side to make it easier when we leave. The most straightforward way to do this is by arriving from the A43 NOT the A47. Map here http://www.theroyaloakduddington.com/contact-us
  • Be ready to listen to a brief briefing from me at 13.45 before we depart at 14.00.
  • Behave responsibly. Wheel spins, excessive revving of engines, etc, will only annoy the local residents and potentially spoil the day for everyone else.
Thank you for your understanding.

If you have not contacted me yet or do not have a satnav do not worry, I will have a supply of printed maps and turn by turn notes to hand out.

Uploading the route to a satnav

A couple of you have asked, this is what works for me and my TomTom:

  • Connect TomTom to computer. It should show up as a connected device or external drive/folder.
  • Open the file attached to your email.
  • Save it to the .itn folder in your TomTom.
Not all satnavs can follow itineraries like the one I have sent you, they can only calculate the route between a start and end point. This should not be a problem; I know enough cars do have a device with the itinerary planning so I am confident you will not get lost.

Cheers,
L'rs

Note for next time, please, Longers. On written instructions please put the mileages like you have, and the cumulative mileage to each direction.

Oh yeah... Not sure what I thought you meant when I read it last night but it seemed like a good idea at the time!

Hi Dave, yes, it has been one of those days but not because of tomorrow!

I've sent you the files a couple of times from 2 different email accounts through today but they keeping bouncing back. I will have printed copies of the map & route notes with me tomorrow if QBee cannot sort you out. With such a large number of TVRs in the country's smallest county I'm sure another one will turn up soon if anybody does take a wrong turning wink

Hi everyone

It was great to see so many cars turn up on Saturday afternoon. The last time I counted there were 70 cars but I know at least 2 more arrived after that!

A big thank you from me to...
- the guys who helped get everyone parked, handed out maps, etc
- my mates who "willingly volunteered" to lead a group, even though they were not familiar with the local area but relying totally on their satnavs for directions
- whoever it was who arranged the weather
- and, most importantly, everyone who took part for behaving responsibly.

We needn't have worried about the police motorbikes waiting at the entrance to the village from the A47. Although we made their heads turn when we arrived, they were actually there for this little lot...

Until next time... wink
