Ad to the language thing, their descendants were all astronauts 100 years ago and i presumed the standard space language would be English..if not that dominated as their kids grew up. And the grinders were in America, where they speak English...just!
We're told that the Ark is formed by joining a number of nation's space stations together "The Ark consists of the space stations previously representing the nations of the UK, USA, Australia, Canada, China, Japan, India, Russia, Venezuela, France, Brazil, and Uganda."(WTF, Uganda !)
So even if the prevalent space language was English, one would expect words from other the other languages to enter the vocabulary. Slang, accents, figures of speech, inflection points, sub-text etc.
I'd also expect the vocabulary of the space lot to diminish for things that they don't encounter on a daily basis e.g. streams, rivers, ravines, cliffs, etc
But, I expect that 100 years apart is not something to make too big a deal about - and it would not add a great deal to the entertainment.
