It seems that we are being asked to foot the bill for increased footballers wages:-

I'm thinking of switching to freeview. Anybody here done this?

I switched to Freesat about 2 yrs ago, you are able to use the dish and cables from sky, just swap boxes.

Don't miss Sky at all, and will do my best never to return.
So apart from football & some channels what else would I lose?

Can you still record stuff and what about other sports channels? Mrs BC loves tennis which is often on Eurosport .

Just looked at the Freestat web site, looks good. Does anybody know if I can watch BT Sport through it ? I get the sports package free as a BT phone & broadband customer.

As I already have Sky tv it appears that I can get a Freestat viewing card from Sky for £25 and use the existing equipment:-

Has anybody tries this. If so hopefully BT Sport would still work?

I love how Sky bid millions over the odds for Premier League football then simply pass the cost on to their customers. Genius
Yep and I was one of those football mad customers who decided enough is enough.
That's pretty much where I am. Not had the price increase letter yet but I won't be paying it. I will miss the football but seriously as you say enough is enough.

My current Sky deal runs to 16 May so need to give notice to leave in a few days. It will be interesting to see what they offer me when I call next week.

Will update after the call.

Just phoned Sky saying I'm not paying the increase so leaving. Hey presto they held the price as before due to a new 'special offer'. I'm (still) paying £53.75 for Family Bundle, Sports and Multiroom (we have 2 Sky boxes).

Does that seem fair?

Just spent 40 mins on the phone and instead of a £4.50 rise I've managed to get £18 off my current tariff.

It would be good to know what your current tariff is and what you were paying please?

I wonder if Sky have ever carried out analysis of how many people call to cancel when Sky announce a price-rise (and then either go ahead with cancelling or get a discount) versus not putting up prices in the first place!
It's not just Sky. We change from the AA to RAC on alternate years to get the new customer discount. Insurance companies, banks, telephone companies. You need to keep an eye on each one and remember to contact them at the end of the contract term.

Does anyone have a non premium number for Sky Customer Services that works?

I want to cancel, all the freephone and non premium numbers I've tried don't seem to be working.

look further back in this thread. I posted one and so did someone else as BT charges for 0344 as st.
Depends on your BT package. The following came from - http://www.area-codes.org.uk/0344-numbers.php

The cost to call 0344 numbers is the same as calling a normal local or national landline.

If your tariff or call package offers free or inclusive calls to landlines, numbers starting with 03 will be included in the exact same way.

Thanks. Used this number to cancel my package.

Was paying £60 a month for TV excluding movies. They got it down to £50 but that's still too much.

The quality of Skys football product is going downhill yet we are being asked to paid more. Henry is getting millions to be a pundit yet he's shockingly bad. As it Redknapp.

Ive got an Amazon Fire TV box, use that more than the Sky box, it's amazing what you can stream these days.
Well done.

Please let us know if they come back with some more offers during the notice period.

ERm...ahhhhhh, dunno why I typed that. Got confused, but those type of companies like to set up huge warehouse type places to house several units, so I guess Sky could have done the same.
The Sky retentions team are based in Scotland. The last person I spoke with there gave me his life history - grandparents from London, moved to Scotland in the 1960's . . . . . .

So, the plan worked. Sky called me today and have given me 35% off my package for 10 months without the need to sign up for a new contract. Also give me a credit for £50 applied to my account.

To save even more I've cancelled Sky Sports at the end of the season but will still get F1. May get Sky Sports again come the new season.

Yes, could have saved more but I'm happy.

I have one as well smile Big trouble is that I am right on the edge of reception of terrestrial TV and only get the main ones. I had an engineer come out to sort out the roof aerial and he basically shook his head frown
Thats pretty much my problem. The roof arial is next to useless as the reception is so poor and there is no cable in this area. The alternative for me would have been Freeview through Sky.

Just called to cancel as I said I wanted to consolidate TV, phone and broadband as they are with 3 different suppliers at the moment (Sky, BT & TalkTalk).

Managed to get the same TV package along with phone line and fibre broadband for less than I’m paying for TV at the moment. Have to say that the chap was very helpful and extremely courteous (even though he was a Geordie and used the word ‘Mint!’ far too much smile)

I could probably have saved a little bit more by moving to BT but I would have lost a lot of stuff (F1, Multiroom, Sky Go, Sky News on the phone/iPad etc), so overall I think I'll be saving just shy of £400 over the next 12 months thumbup

Edit - just done the calcs again and it's actually a saving of over £500 biggrin

Well done that man. clap

If anybody else is negotiating with Sky it's worth mentioning that inflation is now zero %. For non footballers that is.
