I read this last year. Best book I had read in a while and did find it impossible to put down. First book by Andy Weir.

"Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there."

Now I see that it is to be a film. It's a great story so please don't fek it up Mr R Scott.

Are you the same person from the Walking Dead thread that suggested that an episode featuring a day in the life of a zombie would be a good idea hehe

Trailer always has to be over dramatic but it looked good and appears faithful to the book.

Since reading the book, I too divided my already sprouting old potatoes found in the larder and cut them into chunks. Planted them in my new allotment and they have all come up.

I used Watney's method of cutting up potatoes to get a bigger crop on my allotment this year and it worked.

Totally agree.

Loved the book, read it in a couple of days and was really looking forward to the film. I was going to take my boys but thought I'd get a preview in on my own and then be happy to see it again.

I left the cinema yesterday somewhat deflated and really don't fancy a second sitting. All the peril bits were too quick.

The airlock scene in the book must of been a whole chapter plus all the rover journeys were glossed over. It just seemed that he had only spent a few weeks on Mars not 2 years.

OK, probably impossible to put over in a film, maybe a series on Netflix would have been a better idea.

The body double scenes were genius; probably more important to the narrative and expresses the rationing and passing time well.
You think?? I though the use of a skinny bloke shot from behind before cutting to Matt's (still) chubby little face was done terribly. Tom Hanks and Christian Bale must have wondered what they bothered dieting for at all when you just need an 8 stone actor with his head out of shot!
hehe I agree

And we share the roads with a lot of these people.

Didn't any of them see Capricorn One. It was all faked.

Even though I wasn't wowed by The Martian, it's a good movie. The Dark Knight stuff is just boring.

And no worries about using loads of fuel as it's not going far.

So you come out of the cinema covered in fecal matter and red dust, sick of potatoes and smelling as if you haven't had a shower in 2 years.

Apart from all the disco music, I wonder if there was a hard drive full of porn.
