Fingers crossed they don't fk it up. With technology now like Raspberry Pi and 3D printing etc, it might make some interesting robots.

I always thought Hypnodisc was a brilliant concept (and Tombstone since someone posted the links on here), but never liked the way it would suddenly shoot off sideways at great speed whenever the disc made contact. Led me to wonder whether twin contra-rotating discs wouldn't have been a better idea.
Separate discs like 13 Black or 2 discs contra rotating on the same axis?

Just had the 6th wars final on Challenge, Razer v Tornado when Tornado had the framework around it that was bigger than the pit and big enough to keep Razer away from the body. Pissed me off at the time, still pisses me off hehe

I don't know Angela, but getting Dara must be quite a coup?
I think he will be very good at it.
Me neither with Angela Scanlon, but Dara presenting it does back up the 'more science' bit of the new show.

Been catching up with the old series 5 & 6 on Sky 2 and series 7 (the channel 5 one) on Challenge. Can't recall watching 7, might have been during the "can't receive channel 5 period" hehe

I can't believe after 7 series there were still robot teams who thought a spike that moved out was a reasonable weapon. They never did any damage, fixed spike on a fast (Tornado, Storm 2) robot yes, but on a slow robot, pneumatically fired out. No way.

Also series 7 quality of Robots seems to have dropped, other than the seeded robots and Storm 2 the others wouldn't have looked out of place in series 2 or 3.
Its, odd, I don't remember the series 7 fights either while I've been watching on Challenge, but I do remember seeing Cassius Chrome and thinking it was a bit st for a house robot. Some of the Dutch robots have been pretty good though, especially Gravity.

Watched the S7 final on Challenge lastnight. The new series talks about the 'bombproof' arena protection, the sides of the arena lastnight were made of clear polycarbonate stuff called Makroclear, looking it up says its used around the sides of ice hockey arenas. Typhoon 2 broke the arena sides, twice. I don't know if Typhoon is in the new series, but if it or anything like it is in there, that arena had better be very very bombproof.

So while we are waiting for the Robot Wars series to start, BattleBots is starting up again in the USA. First up is a qualifier episode with 12 bots fighting for for the last 4 places of 48. When this thread started was wondering what could happen in RW with new tech, well here you go - drones, cluster bots, interesting use of flame weapons, and a mighty spinner.

A few bits of info here on Robot Wars http://www.wired.co.uk/article/new-robot-wars-2016...

The robot weight limit is up to 125kg from 100kg
No more Sgt Bash, Mr Psycho, Cassius Chrome, Growler or Refbot.
Shunt, Matilda, Dead Metal and Sir Killalot are rebuilt and much bigger (Shunt weighs 300kg, Killalot is 3/4 tonne, about the same as Mr Psycho)
A lot of robots, and house robots, are using a toughened steel material called hardox (?).

So I watched the first one of then new Battlebots series (about 1 hour 20 mins, 2 hours in US with adverts). It was good, a few interesting designs, impressive weapons, I won't say who won what...

There were a few faces from Robot Wars - Photon Storm has some of the Storm and Tornado guys from RW, Beta is a version of the KillaHertz/MegaHertz hammer bot, the guy who had Mortis in early RW was there with a kind of Refbot shaped part animatronic bot, he had metal frames on his arms, the robots arms copied his movement they were against Warhead with the Razer guys.

Warhead has a switchable weapon now, the spinner as before or a dinosaur head shaped jaw with a fire weapon in it (many fire breathing dragon comments from the commentators and presenters). Not sure how strong the jaw is yet, but it doesn't look as strong as Razer's weapon.

As for Robot Wars, it is coming soon (not sure when but should be sometime in July or August), there are trailers about, and the new house robots have been shown. http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-06-23/this-is-...

We now have a 'later this month's for when it's on. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv...

Not sure why but I've got a feeling it will be the Sunday evening 'Top Gear' slot once the tennis and football is finished.

Thumbs up smile . The first rounds were a bit manic to keep track of, but once it was 1v1 I liked the league system of everybody fighting each other. Nuts was great fun, it reminded me of the Irish guys with Diotor the furry robot in old RW, there for the fun of it hehe .

This many posts and nobody here has said what car and model year the alloy wheel used as the pit release was from? Or what tyre is was?

As Lee McKenzie would say, disappointing hehe
