David Brent : Life On The Road
Discussion
Very much looking forward to this film, in cinemas on 19th August. Trailer here
I know Ricky Gervais polarises opinion on PH, but I was a big fan of The Office, probably because I have spent 20 years working in similar places in the Thames Valley.
His new video to accompany it, 'Lady Gypsy' also made me chuckle. Girl in it looks like Hayley the Tea Lady from The Call Centre. Is it her, I wonder?

I loved The Office, but RG has since become a monumental bellend IMO and the trailer for this did little to change that opinion. Completely full of himself.
Ricky, or David Brent? Surely the joke is that Brent is such a monumental bell-end, but thinks he's great? I once worked with a bloke who was so much like Brent it was almost painful to watch The Office, such was my "that's Colin!" cringe at every turn. Probably why I continue to love the character. I commute past Whitley in Reading most days, where RG grew up. 1950's council estate with lots of social problems, it's got a bad rep, some of it justified, some not. If I'd lucked my way into radio, written and starred in a legendary sitcom, gone to Hollywood, made a couple of movies and hosted The Golden Globes, I'd probably be a teeny bit smug too. Sometimes I get the impession that he can't believe his luck. Whitley's only other claim to fame is that Midge Ure briefly lived there in 1974!
