films being made into tv programmes
Discussion
ive noticed recently that several 'decent' movies are being turned into tv programmes, has the industry finally run out of ideas, so far ive seen;
Shooter - dont bother, not sure how they could drag that film out into 10 x 45 minute programmes and still have massive plot holes in, set-up for season 2
Training Day - set up after the film, so im wondering if the lead black actors dad was the dirty cop in the film and Bill Baxman is Ethan Hawke (i could read imbd i guess but...)
Not see but its coming to itv soon;
Lethal Weapon
Any others?

Animal Kingdom - Australian film now made into a US series. Film was great but not yet seen the TV series. It's on my Kodi/Exodus collection to watch.
I gave up on TV version of Lethal Weapon.
Gotham (albeit a prequel to Batman) - I'm enjoying this.
Fargo - didn't enjoy the TV series.

Lethal Weapon is actually pretty good. Riggs backstory (what happened to his wife/why he went suicidal nuts) is better thought out than in the film, very nasty, and works well as something to carry forward through the story.
Exorcist TV exists.
From Dusk til Dawn TV exists.
Evil Dead TV exists.
There are a lot of these things around now, more than I can remember right now. Some like Evil Dead are a straight extension of the films with the same people involved, others are telling the same basic story but fleshed out and expanded.
Some of the older things like this (Robocop, Blade) are dross but the modern stuff is usually worth a look.

Was, they put it out of it's misery after one series thankfully.To the best of my knowledge there's been the odd TV series that's made a so-so to good film, it's usually more of a 2 hour special to end a series. I quite liked 'Entourage' but I was a big fan of the series.
Going the other way, I cant think of a decent TV series based on a film since MASH? have I missed any?
A few more I've watched:
12 Monkeys - good but a little bit different to the film, mostly because it tells a longer story.
Damien - follow up to The Omen, includes flashbacks to the films.
Dominion - related to the film Legion (Paul Bettany thing with angels)
Minority Report - quite an interesting one, set a few years after the film.

Most of them are ste, watered down versions of greatness.
Ones I like
Stargate SG-1, starts off as a ropey copy, but then continues into something that is truly it's own.
Fargo - serial drama among the best, very nuanced

Particularly S1. Really outstanding script, acting (OK, maybe not Martin Freeman, who played...Martin Freeman) and setting.Acting in S2 was exemplary.
