I know we've all seen this film a million times. However, I've just discovered that the Vue cinema in Farnborough is having a one off 75th Anniversary showing of the film "The Great Escape" this evening at 6.00 pm. As well as the movie, there is also a presentation on screen of the story of the real escape by Dan Snow. I know it's short notice but I just found out this morning.

I'm sure other cinemas might be screening this event today so if you check on line you might find that it is also on at a cinema near you.

The whole show was around 4 1/2 hours long - an excellent night out.

I've just finished a book about the German nightfighters. They said that, despite neutralist Switzerland had an agreement with Germnay to send the German pilots back if they landed or crashed in Switzerland (but not the Allies). Maybe Sweden had a simmilar agreement for POW's??
I believe there was a similar unwritten agreement with Ireland, German airmen would be interned,
allied personnel would be allowed to leave Ireland and return to their bases.
Yes - as far as I know, no Germans were ever repatriated to Germany whereas most if not all Allied personnel were back with their units within months (sometimes much shorter).

German airmen who died in Ireland were buried in Ireland. There is a German Airman's cemetry in County Wicklow.

Allied airmen's bodies were repatriated.
