Sons of Anarchy
Discussion
Anybody else out there watching Sons of Anarchy?
For the uninitiated, its a US drama about the 'Sons of Anarchy' outlaw motorcycle club (aka 'SAMCRO') in California and their various troubles with the law, rival gangs and internal feuds. Its kind of a cross between the 'criminal family' style of the Sopranos and a intricately plotted crime drama like The Shield.....probably because its produced by the guy who created The Shield.
Basically, its tales of hard men doing nasty and mean things but still being heroes compared to the scum they're dealing with. Plenty of swearing, booze, hookers, fights, guns and bikes. Some great acting and a great cast. The thing i like about it though is that its often quite darkly funny, with amusing banter between the 'Sons' themselves and plenty of weird and wonderful characters. It is all round awesome in my book.
Nobody I know has even heard of it, but on the strength of a mention in a magazine I thought I'd check it out and downloaded it.
I've just finished watching Season 2 and i'm completely hooked! I think season 1 has been on Bravo in the UK?
It also stars Ron "Hellboy" Perlman who's great as the double-hard mean old bd who runs the club. Bizarrely, now i've watched two series of it I googled for some more information and discovered the other main actor in it - Charlie Hunnam who plays the maverick club Vice President - is a geordie and was in Byker Grove and Queer as Folk!! You would never in a million years guess this when you watch it and it must rate as one of the weirdest career paths in acting history....
there aren't really any trailers or anything online that do it justice, but this will give you a flavour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BVrfDiJMMg
Anyway, interested to hear other people's views on it and if you haven't seen it, check it out!

ps. Katey Sagal (Gemma) is also the voice of Leela in Futurama
Ah-ha, thought there was something familiar about her! Good spot.Probably the other most memorable cast member is scotsman Tommy Flanagan (from various stuff like Braveheart and Gladiator) as he has very distinctive facial scars. Nice to see him doing something other than 'Tough looking henchman No.2' in Hollywood films!
The cast is all really good though i reckon, although 'Juice' is a bit underdeveloped as a character and 'Happy' just seems to pop up as a handy deus ex machina at random intervals.....(actually because the guy who plays him isn't an actor but the show's technical advisor)

Damnit, i was going to watch this series, and for some reason(probably mrs slopes watching emmerstreet or some such ste) missed it, now im gutted after hearing it was good.
Yeah, its not a very woman-friendly series on the face of it (bikers and hookers not an easy sale to the Mrs!)...although they seem to put a 'Jax getting out of the shower' scene in every episode for the ladies! Comfortably Dumb said:

Nice one.
Happy isn't featured enough!
Quality TV though, love how darkly funny some bits are and how brutal others are!
Yeah, its because the guy who plays Happy isn't really an actor...he's the real deal and was hired to be technical consultant on the show.Happy isn't featured enough!
