Not sure why there is this sudden concern and outrage about blocking online pornography; but nothing like a bit of mass hysteria to sell papers.

They appear to have shot themselves in the foot as the smaller story at the bottom of the article shows that blocking online porn will not prevent perverts in chatrooms such as Haboo Hotel.

Children under 18 are their parents or guardians responsibility. No one else.

Not ISPs, not website owners, not the govt, not the police.

Its sickening this socialist nanny state tripe is coming from a supposedly at least half conservative govt.
It is another case of the abdication of responsibility by parents - I don't want my children to see something naughty on the Internet so I'll demand that my ISP blocks it.

This proposed legislation would not prevent what (allegedly) happened with Haboo Hotel, nor will it prevent children swapping USB memory sticks full of porn in the playground (or sharing by some other methods)

If any dodgy content is viewed by children once the parents have "opted out" then I can imagine that some parents will then sue the ISP
