Ooh look...

Another "recycling" centre mysteriously sets itself on fire.

Funny how they never used to spontaneously combust - I'm not suggesting for one second some of the people involved in these places are less than 100% above board, it must just be an unlucky coincidence.

Chances that this one will catch fire? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-32979096
I came here to post the same thing!

Ashford borough councillor Geraldine Dyer said:
"The residents are incredibly concerned about this. It's a huge fire risk and pollution as well."
She said there was water on the site and the mattresses had been in the water.

Smarden parish councillor Brian Bristow said:
"The size of the mountain is just horrendous."

He said if the pile ever caught fire it could burn down the estate.

A home destroyed and the family's lives put at risk when the recycling plant went up in flames. Please note that the weather in NI has been dire over the last few weeks as it normally is, lots of rain, everything sodden etc but yet these recycling centres seem to be highly flammable... scratchchin

Seven fire engines were called after a suspected fire at a recycling plant.

The alarm was raised at the plant in Laverstoke Road, Allington in Maidstone at around 5pm, after an item - thought to be a flare - ignited when it was crushed in one of the large silos containing various metals.

There were fears the smouldering item could have caused a blaze that had the potential to spread to other waste.

Blaze at Street Fuel Ltd at Chatham Docks
13 December 2016
Firefighters spent more than five hours tackling a blaze inside a warehouse at Chatham Docks.
Crews were called to North Side Three Road, St Mary's Island, at 9.20pm last night after a recycling machine caught alight at Street Fuel Ltd.
The machine was connected to a 500 litre diesel tank and there was a danger the flames could spread.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue said: “The fire could have escalated, it was a big warehouse and it could have spread. We did a good job.”
"The machinery was completely destroyed so it was impossible to tell what had caused it."

Street Fuel Ltd fined £25,000 after worker sustains arm injuries while operating a baler machine.

Ulcombe: Plastic waste at Little Neverend Farm a 'fire hazard'

A father is urging the authorities to do something about a pile of rubbish at the property next door – even though it belongs to his son.

Barton Tarry, 80, who owns Neverend Farm at Pye Corner in Ulcombe insists a pile of plastic waste at neighbouring Little Neverend Farm is a fire hazard.

But the recycling site, owned by Martin Tarry, is completely legitimate and fully complies with regulations and licences.

Barton Tarry says waste on his son’s land is a fire hazard
There was a blaze at the property in July 2015, which needed 45 firefighters to put out.

At its height, a huge black cloud could be seen as far away as Sittingbourne.

Martin Tarry, 48, believes the fire was arson.

Hard to see how recycling is good for the environment of those living close to the ones that go up in smoke.

"After more than two days, fire crews have finally left the site of a recycling plant fire.

Firefighters were called out to Smarden Business Estate on Sunday morning as 1,000 tonnes of rubbish including mattresses, two large buildings and around five shipping containers caught fire."
