Are they doing this over here also?

I know they are doing something to blend them in :

But its said the fake ones are for spying, in as much as who ever can "log on" to the masts can basically listen to conversations and access your phone to their hearts content.

Not a great step for personal privacy is it?

My OP seems to be creating a bit of confusion...
There are fake phone masts in the USA which are being used to intrude on privacy; to distinguish between one type of 'fake' and another type of 'fake' I posted another link to show that some 'fake' masts are just being blended in to the surrounds.

But the main question was aimed at the spy-fake masts that by all accounts have the potential to be used by anyone with the right tech to snoop on privacy.
