Looks highly likely from this:

In return for the BBC funding the free "licenses" for those ove 75, instead of them be currently funded by the Dept of work and pensions.

How do others feel about this, will you pay for iplayer access?

Personally, if it means buying a TV "license" at £145.50 , then I will not . I just do not use it enoiugh (even when its free).

If they allow pay per view , or specific channels at a reasonable cost then I might be tempted, but otherwise? Nah!

My fingers are crossed that they eventually move to offering only subscription based content in the hopes they no longer ransom the TV airwaves.
Thats my take on the matter. Being forced to fund the BBC if you wish touse another live service is a nonsense.

I've not had a TV for getting on 9 years now, and have to say if I have used iplayer once a fortnight since it was avalable, then thats about it.

So if reasonable I'd maybe pay for PPV, but having said that , with TG now gone, its hard to think what I might watch in the first place. We shall see.

It keeps referring to "the paper" for the info, I assume that is the Times?
Yes, beleieve so , the Times source appears to be leaked information from a senior insider regarding the upcoming budget.

Then how would the programmes get made?
Subscription. Freedom of choice. The BBC does make qulaity programmes from time to time. So do a myriad of other companies, companies not funded by state sanction.

Difference between iplayer and ITV catch-up = one carries adverts
Difference between ITV catch-up and youtube is?
I'd put money on it that it will mean if you can see video on it then you have to pay a license fee for it
I smell an excuse for an internet tax. The bds have tried it before , Brown's telphone line standing charge tax , what was it meant to be (initially), 50 p a quarter I think . Thankfully not implemented , wonder if they will have another go?

At a similar time, BBC lobbyists were campaaigning on linking internet and broadcast media , bring them under the same umbrella.

They will not have forgotten it, so suspect we will be stiffed one way or the other. Being forced by law to pay for a media company when you only use competitors services is a fking disgrace.
