Never mind what the American electorate thinks. Who do PHers predict will be the next leader of the free world?

(I think I know the answer. hehe)

Hold it.

Is the question:

Who do you think the American electorate will vote into office?

or

Who would you vote into office?
The question is who do you think will win.

Hail Hail, truth is Hilary will blow him away, as a minor student of American politics, I expect the Dems will win the Senate too.

On a personal note as a black man, I hope the election process blows away the smoke and mirrors of the odious demagogue Drumpt, he declares bankruptcy again and becomes as reviled as Joseph McCarthy

I think you'll find Clinton is a she. Good to see you keep up with world affairs though. biggrin

Sanders is socialist lite. By British standards he's somewhere to the right of Blair and the left of Cameron.

Yes, I know, but Sanders has proclamed himself a socialist many times for years, the word alone is not the best way to gather global consensus in a country like US.
To be completely accurate he calls himself a "democratic socialist". He's a social democrat, certainly a leftie by the standards of this country but very soft left by UK standards.

Shock horror, people ignore IT security policies when they are a nuisance. It happens all the time both the private and public sectors.

People don't care about IT security, they just want the job done with the least hassle.
Funny, in my old bank it was instant dismissal.

We took security quite seriously... And that was only money/clients not even minor issues like National Defence...
It's really a small issue that's been blown out of all proportion by the GOP. She admitted that it was a mistake, it was done with the intent of making her emails more secure (governments leak like sieves) not less but with hindsight she'd do it differently. Colin Powell and Condi Rice also used private email when at State but the GOP and Clinton haters are surprisingly silent on that.

I'm afraid I think there is a very real possibility of Trump winning.

But neither of them will be as bad as people say. The Americans have a proper political system. A lot of people need to agree to get something done...

Do you think so? I suspect it will be close...
Not even close. It won't quite be Goldwater '64 but it will be the worst defeat by a republican candidate since then.

But that's just my opinion. Maybe there are enough xenophobic racists who will vote for a narcissistic bigot to see him through? No, I'm being silly, there aren't. I'm not saying that millions of republicans will vote for Clinton. Some will, many won't but many won't vote for him either. The man is anti American, even his own party hate him. I have a lot of republican friends and acquaintances. Some say they will vote for him, some say they won't, most that say they will are doing it whilst holding their noses and using an ultra long bargepole. Unfortunately for the GOP a lot of their people will simply stay home on Nov 8th and that means that they are going to lose a lot of senators, congressmen and even a few governors too.

All politicians are narcissistic and most have proven themselves to be bigoted. As for xenophobic racists - look to many of the less cosmopolitan parts of the USA and you find a whole lot of people that fit that description perfectly.

I wouldn't write him off just yet.
Have you followed any of the election? Trump isn't "a bit" racist or bigoted, he's allin. hehe

Demographics, demographics, demographics. Of course there are rural areas where attitudes are a little less progressive than we would like and for sure in Tennessee, Alabama and some other states Trump will do well. The trouble is doing well in republican strongholds doesn't get you anywhere. Romney lost by 332 to 206 in the electoral college in 2012. For any republican (let alone this one) to take the WH they would need to win all the GOP states plus a number of purple states. Right now I think he will lose all the blue and purple states and a number of red states like Missouri, NC, Indiana, Utah and even Georgia are in danger of going blue.

There will be a few exploding heads in the US as the misogynistic types wrestle with the ambivalence of a female potas or a racist idiot with hair cast from cold linguine.

We'll be there soon too though - Boris or corbyn.

The world is fked.
It's POTUS, the U stands for United, as in United States.....

Don't worry, Brits will come to their senses and vote to stay in and Boris will be exiled to the Isle of Man.

So a few weeks have passed. All you Trump fans still confident?

Since the last post we have had the conventions, Trump has got himself embroiled in a war with a gold star family, refused to release his tax returns (for which he is now being taunted by the much much wealthier Warren Buffet), been disowned by a sitting GOP congressman, had a number of generals and other senior military men denounce him, picked a fight with a baby, fondled his daughters arse in front of millions, lied about getting a letter from the NFL, persuaded high profile billionaires Mike Bloomberg, Mark Cuban and Warren Buffet to not just endorse but stump for his rival and now he's trailing by 9 points in the latest and first meaningful polls.

It's still early but it's not looking too rosy for Don right now and he's started talking about a "rigged" election.

Personally I have not wavered from my view that the narcissistic conman is going to get crushed by at least 100 electoral college votes.

Yeah you definitey don't want Donny then. He can't even lie straight. Says he got a letter from the NFL. It took the NFL about 10 minutes to say nope, no letter. laugh

I voted remain but I think this comment from a " look at me I'm in the states now and know everything" is akin to Obama's "back of the queue" comment.

We stick together us Brits and stupid or otherwise, poor comment. Hope you are happy in the US as you just pissed on you're chips here. To use a colloquialism you were once aware of.

Maybe stupid was a bit harsh. Unbelievable all the same. I still have reasonably big (for me) personal investments in the UK so I hope that things work out. Cameron was the really stupid one for promising the referendum in the first place. Never ask a question you don't know the answer to etc..

As far as pissing on my chips, most of the people I know well voted to remain and are as aghast as I am about it.

Well more fool them if they can't see the way the EU is heading. At least us Brits will be able to control our own lives again.
As for all you Americans who may have an utter clown leading your country into conflict at every possible opportunity.......
No you won't. You can't afford not to trade with the EU and they will make the conditions under which you may do so draconian. Britain will still be mired in EU laws, restrictions and red tape but you will have no seat at the table. Worst of all worlds. Leaving is an act of lunacy and I don't know one sensible smart Brit who thinks otherwise.

Trump will lose massively in November and Clinton will continue the very real progress that has been made over the past 8 years.

Meanwhile major republican donor and CEO of HP Meg Whitman has announced that she is so disgusted with Trump that she will not only vote for Clinton but she will campaign and fund raise for her too. Whitman was the CEO of Ebay for 10 years and took the business from $4 million to $8 billion in revenue and is one of the most powerful women in America. She's just the latest senior republican to jump ship.

It's being reported tonight that Paul Manafort has basically given up trying to influence Trump and is basically just "mailing it in" now. The wheels are coming off fast.......

Interesting, thanks for this. Do you know who said it? I've just searched and it appears to be 'unnamed close to Manafort', which makes me slightly cynical.
It was reported on all the news channels last night. Manafort is a disgusting excuse for a human being anyway, tied in to all sorts of very shady stuff. Trump doesn't listen to anyone anyway so guys like Manafort are only there for the pay check.

This business with Ivanka and sexual harassment.. And the baby... The incompetence and lack of basic understanding is breathtaking.
