Yay, another referendum thread ! But please no more rehearsing of the arguments in this thread, just consideration of the results.

First question though is ... How long are folk going to watch/listen, and which channel ?

Me - I shall probably watch BBC1 mainly because I rate Kuenssberg, and I shall probably wait for the first few results - the very first are expected to be Sunderland and Wandsworth and it might be interesting to get an initial feel for London versus the Rest of England. If after a dozen or so results the outcome seems clear either way then I shall hit the sack.

Disappointed at Dimbleby's tie. He's written that several times on Question Time. Nothing else of note yet.

So Birmingham might knock 70,000 off the Leave vote.

General election will be called for 13th October 2016. It has been set in motion today.

You heard it here first.
A GE can't be 'called' anymore. It needs a resolution of Parliament declaring 'no confidence' in the Government.
Indeed (or a straight vote of 75% ? of MPs). Maybe the Tories are planning on a vote of no confidence in the Tory government ? Why would the government want to call a GE, even if they could - unless it was so they could have a manifesto commitment to stay in the EU, of course (manna from heaven for UKIP).

I do agree there should be a Law to see 100% voting.
Only if there is always a "none of the above" option.

smile Nice one - didn't check your garage before posting smile smile But on a random sample of 5 Brexiters in this thread not one had a British manufactured car (other than one classic Healey - very nice too - but I suspect the people who manufactured that are long gone frown )
wavey - to whoever that other Healey owner might be

Isn't the Healey brand now owned by BMW?
I was pretty sure that the Healey family kept it.

What was the original aim of the EU anyway?
To stop wars from happening in Europe.
No, that was the original aim of the ECSC with its six members (F, D, I, NL, L and B). It had become the EEC by the time GB, EI and DK joined in 1973 - and they joined mainly for trading reasons rather than defensive/military; NATO was by then far far more important in respect of peace-keeping. Those 9 were generally speaking the most prosperous states in Europe; further expansion (GR in 1981, ES and P in 1986, then A, F and S in 1995 and the final 12 over the period 2004-7) was primarily for economic reasons to help out poorer nations and/or get them away from the influence of the Big Bad Bear to the east. I'm missing one country to get to 28 !
