Lots of speculation about right wing groups, would they just randomly start shooting anybody? Does this area of Munich have a Jewish community?

That's what I don't get.
That's what that Swedish guy did wasn't it? Just random shooting?
I think he targeted members of the left wing government because he saw them as traitors to his nationalist cause.

Aren't you mixing it up? The Norwegian guy shot up the socialdemocrat summercamp, the Swedish guy walked in to an immigrant school with a sword.
Yes, my mistake.

Witnesses report seeing a "long barrelled gun", yet there is no information on the background of the perpetrators. Surely if you're close enough to see details of the weapon then you would have some idea of the gunmans background?

Is it 'better' or 'worse' if it turns out that it's from a or b background?
How does your question relate to my point?

It appears that some information is being released while other information is being held back. Of course it's a chaotic situation so everything is in flux.

Not necessarily. It's well known that victims confronted by criminals with guns will fixate on the gun. I think it was even mentioned in the Godfather film when Michael Corleone shot the two guys in the restaurant - "just walk out of the place calmly...they'll all be looking at the gun", or words to that effect.
Yep, very good point AJL.
Very easy to pick up on details that appear obvious from the comfort and safety of my home, the situation would be entirely different if I was caught up in the horror and chaos of the event.

As an aside, I keep reading that Facebook are using safety checks or something. What does this mean and how does it relate to this incident?

Is a "sporting rifle" one where there's a 50:50 chance of the bullet firing backwards?
I'm stealing that.

Outside of the remit of this thread but I used to be a regular on an American body building forum (I was there under false pretences!).
There were many decent people on there including an absolutely lovely bloke who always had time to help new people out, was compassionate, understanding, balanced and very Christian. I don't do religion myself but he was never pushy and we had many great discussions, I became quite friendly with him over the course of a couple of years.

One day he posted a picture of his very attractive wife posing with a dead Bear, a huge dead Bear which she had her arm around. She had a big smile on her face and he was bursting with pride about it. They had visited a place where you could set up on a high platform over looking an enclosure with a high powered hunting rifle and then kill a Bear which was wandering about below.

He described this pastime as "Sport" and "Hunting" and supplied endless details about the calibre of the rifle and the thrill of the kill. He was roundly congratulated by just about everybody with lots of back slapping for a "great job" and so on.

I found I just couldn't view the place and the people in the same light after that. Perhaps that's a failing on my part but how such a pastime can ever be construed as sport is beyond me.
