What surprises me is theres not more action by the locals, given the French propensity to striking im surprised the whole area hasnt come to a standstill. Reports from the local deputy mayor on the news earlier saying the army needs to get involved.

This is a French security issue plan and simple, As said in the interview with the deputy mayor of Calais, he even said the government are doing nothing. We're pretty much back to where it was with Sangatte except it seems they are a tad more ballsy in their approach these days.

We could give the perception of not taking them in by deporting them instantly, some were picked up in the channel yesterday or the day before... Taken straight back to France and dropped off? No, theyre no doubt in a immigration centre somewhere awaiting their first benfits cheque.

Out of interest does anyone go to Calais for pleasure anymore? Used to do a wine/beer run probably three or four times a year in the late nineties early noughties.

2 What checks are the Italians and French supposed to have carried out? These people did not pass through any border controls.
And there you have it in one, the EU is a giant free for all for whoever wants to just wander in, be they friend of foe. Its nuts with the current state of the world and its seemingly endless supply of nutters wanting to blow things up and kill people. Europeans did not ask for any of this, its all been created by idiot politicians, the only ones with any common sense appear to be Hungary who dont appear bothered with an abundance of hand wringers and have built a rather large wall.

Indeed, where the f... are they all going to go? This constant barage in the media that we need immigration is not good. Do you ever look at the south east of the uk, roads in gridlock, schools and hospital bursting and say enough? Let alone are we building 300,000 homes a year? And i wouldnt be surprised if theres another 100k or so if not more that we dont know about. There seems to be an obsession that business growth and GDP usurps quality of life, think long and hard about that. Quality of life is seriously being erroded.

If the French have any sense the same as Germany, record and register the lot of them, offer asylum and distribute throughout France, if they refuse, deport them.

Why not just stop crossings to Calais over the winter for example. Those in the camp will soon disappear. If the problem moves elsewhere- repeat
I'm not sure theres the capacity elsewhere to cover it, is there? You do realise just how much freight goes through dont you? Perhaps if it was done in a managed fasion, but not if people just went where they felt like.

Sarkozy seems to think the UK should sort the French mess out.
It's amazing that the French have the front to think that there monumental balls up is the fault of the UK!

This is 100% a British problem. These migrants don't come to Calais because it's in France.
Its 100% a French/EU security problem. Britain will always be a desirable destination, the fact that France has no control whoever enters it is absolutely NOT our problem.

Looks like we are building a wall.

"Construction is soon to begin on a "big new wall" in Calais following a surge in the number migrants trying to get across the Channel, the Government has announced.

The 13ft (4m) concrete barrier will be funded by Britain, at a cost of £2m, and will stretch over a half a mile (1km) along the main dual carriageway approaching the ferry port. Work is expected to begin as soon as this month"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/06/work-to...
Why will this not simply shift the problem 1km down the road to the end of the wall?

FFS.
Indeed, fking idiots, rather than remove whats causing the problem, lets build a fking great wall... smash

The Jungle will be broken up (sounds like he means pretty soon)
Occupants will be relocated to refugee centres around France, and given 4 months to claim asylum if not then to be deported.
Only for more to walk in as France has no border controls other than with us. hehe

Until the idiots at the top of the EU (who are STILL banging on that open borders wont change) realise it cannot stay like this, this problem will carry or, until another country decides theyve had enough and then maybe with two big countries leaving the idiots might wake up.

I fear the only way that will happen will be an attrocity on a scale above what weve seen in France, will be the only way that happens, unless the French make changes on a scale we saw with UKip in their elections.
