New £1 coin

The good old round pound coin will be abolished come October this year. I think its a shame that its being replaced but I suppose it to stop forgery, there must be a lot of fake £1 coins around. Theres a shop near me that has a giant coke bottle filled with pound coins bet they will be gutted.

Both coins will be accepted for a while, how will machines be able to accept both?
