Jo Cox Street Parties
Discussion
A dreadful murder by a deranged low-life, no doubt about it, but how many will get involved with this:

Yeah, I heard a bit about that mentioned on Jeremy Vine (Radio 2) yesterday. Share food with your neighbours, have a street party, celebrate Joe's life. Err I don't think so, I'll chat with my neighbours but that's about as far as it goes, and for sure it's sad that she was murdered but then so have many other people been murdered. We don't have street parties for everyone else that has been killed, I didn't know her personally, it's a nice gesture, but I'm out.

I won't be doing anything but this wasn't just any other murder was it - it was a politically motivated killing of an elected official, something which hasn't happened since the IRA days.

But it quite clearly states her murderer shouted Britain first during the act and it also states the event will be similar to the jubilee so how dare you not?BlackLabel said:

I'm sorry to say this but I think the man is deluded if he thinks people care enough to do this. They've got enough on their plate. He wants 2 days of nationwide street parties. Bigger than the jubilee he says. Good luck with that.
What happened was awful and senseless. Do this in her constituency by all means, but to expect the much more than that (apart from hardcore remainers) is wishful thinking.

A quote from that article: "The killing of Jo was a political thing designed to divide our country and split communities apart."
The killer lived with his mom and couldn't keep a job. I doubt he could divide a country and split communities.
I doubt there will be many street parties.

Propose a 90 day moratorium on migration from seven countries in the Middle East = street protests.
Propose going to war with three of the countries (plus a couple of others) = street parties.
Sounds reasonable - I'm always up for a little bit of let's-invade-the-Middle-East (rebranded as "military component that protects civilians" and "safe havens").

All very sad, & I think bringing in 'celebrity' chefs & the like is somewhat demeaning.
Not at all media lead at all then
Yes it was terrible she was murderd but can they not spend that total waste of money on there constituents rather than
A pointless waste of money street party that's helps nobody and puts pressure on the already skint services to clean all the st up afterwards total morons, street party indeed

They are merely combining forces with The Big Lunch so said street parties (small community centre lunches) will already be happening.
This wont be anything other than what normally happens for the big lunch. It just gives it a different focus and probably more funding and publicity.

And a day of rolling news coverage from the BBC talking to happy and likeable families who voted remain picnicking in parks, and contrasting them with angry bigots in run down boozers who voted Leave. This wont be anything other than what normally happens for the big lunch. It just gives it a different focus and probably more funding and publicity.
You never know, there might even be a "hate crime" or two if some glue sniffer with an England shirt kicks the lemonade stall.

True. But you and I both know that the vast majority of the people that participate will just be doing so as part of The Big Lunch, much as they did last year. Her husband will hijack that for his own political agenda. This wont be anything other than what normally happens for the big lunch. It just gives it a different focus and probably more funding and publicity.
