Yesterday Stanstead Airport was briefly closed by eight protesters who "surrounded" a deportation flight. The charter plane was due to take failed asylum seekers back to Nigeria and Ghana.
Susan James from 'Plane Stupid' said: "In the wake of the Brexit vote, this government is more keen than ever to be seen to be 'tough' on immigration."

They do sound a little bit open-toed-sandal.

Still, at least we can take comfort from the good work of airport security. Eight people running around airside must be more tricky to detect and stop than 100ml of shampoo.

Why do people repeatedly misspell "Stansted"?

Well now, whodathunkit? Being put in prison would be horrific. That's the pre-sentencing conclusion one of the protestors has reached. It's almost as if she didn't think there would be any repercussions for her actions.

[The best-case scenario, she has been told, will entail a home detention curfew and an electronic tag]
Emma Hughes said:
The worst case? Well, I go to prison, my partner gives up his job, my child is separated from me, I apply to enter a mother and baby unit in prison, I’m breastfeeding. Being separated from my son would be horrific.

They're being ordered back to court. This time to face aggravated trespass charges.
Their solicitor has called the move “cruel and vindictive” and suggests that the notice that they must return to court has caused the activists “great anxiety and distress”.
