Stanstead Closed by Deportation Flight Protesters

Yesterday Stanstead Airport was briefly closed by eight protesters who "surrounded" a deportation flight. The charter plane was due to take failed asylum seekers back to Nigeria and Ghana.

Well now, whodathunkit? Being put in prison would be horrific. That's the pre-sentencing conclusion one of the protestors has reached. It's almost as if she didn't think there would be any repercussions for her actions.

The worst case? Well, I go to prison, my partner gives up his job, my child is separated from me, I apply to enter a mother and baby unit in prison, I’m breastfeeding. Being separated from my son would be horrific.

Their solicitor has called the move “cruel and vindictive” and suggests that the notice that they must return to court has caused the activists “great anxiety and distress”.
