I have an RBS silver bank account and its got a £10 a month charge and about £6 for any overdraft usage (I only have a £100 OD which was incase of emergencies, late D|D's etc when I wasn't earning much.)

Talking with my GF about Cash ISA;s etc she couldn't understand why I had an account that charged me £10 a month, and tbh, apart from getting phone insurance, neither could I.

Any financial bods on here know if I can downgrade my account from a silver to a standard current account, can you do it and keep all your account number\sort code and direct debits etc? Do you just lose the benefits?

Having had a look at the RBS website I have found that the standard account is exactly the same as the Silver, I just get phone insurance, travel insurance (which is pointless as I have a pre exisiting condition) and Love Film DVD rental, which I never use.

I would be better saving the £120 odd a year and opening a Cash ISA for the .5% more interest I would get.

Just curious as if its an easy swap then I may as wll do it.

Cheers for any advice.

Col, will give them a call and see, hopefully shouldn't be too long to be on the contract, been a previous royalties account holder but they changed them all to silver accounts without asking so been on that for a while.
