I was a bit surprised to see an email asking me to disclose my financial information in order to support my girlfriend's student finance application... It says something about how I could help Kristi get more money, but I can't help but think we'll both get screwed over.

I work full time and my girlfriend is a student (This also being the case from the start of the relationship) My girlfriend moved in with me around July time.

I earn a reasonable amount (£40k) however I actually have very large outgoings. Based on netting £2335pm currently, I have direct debits totaling £1850 (Rent, car finance, council tax, loan repayments etc). The remaining £500 or so is spent (very quickly, and often over) on food & fuel mainly. I have no savings also.
Girlfriend currently gives me some money from the current student finance that she gets but not much. I pay all the bills for the household.

My concern is that my substantial outgoings will not be taken into account and that I can support my girlfriend more than I actually can.

I never viewed myself as supporting her financially, and don't really see why I should be assumed to on the basis that we are a couple.
I would much rather she receives enough finance to buy her own food and give me a reasonable (say 35 %) contribution towards rent and bills. - The current amount doesn't really cut it and leaves me with little left over every month.

They are requesting financial information for the tax year 15/16 where for the most part I earned £35k with lower outgoings.

So, has anyone been in a similar position or been through the support a students finance application process?
I'm just worried that my outgoings will not be taken into account and that they might assume I can almost fully financialy support her.

TIA
