Hi there,

Need to remove wallpaper etc for redecorating (painting) my recently purchased house.

The wallpaper is thick (wood chip?) and after the removal of an asbestos arch some of the plaster skim on the ceiling has come off along with the wallpaper. See pic:

I will be stripping the wallpaper off, but would it be easier to take it back to the board and have it skimmed and then paint over, or if I am careful would it be viable to only remove the wallpaper and fill in the area where the plaster has come away (in the pic and I would assume a few other places depending how the removal goes) myself? While I want a decent finish, I'm on a budget so if I can do bits myself I will.

Cheers.

Thanks for your replies, the skim coming off during the whole process is what I feard and assumed. I've got to get a plasterer in anyway so not the end of the world.

I do have to remove some (atleast a rooms worth) woodchip from the walls too, so I imagine I'm going to have to do similar to you (Rollin) and fill/sand and then lining paper over it..
