I'm going to need to buy a lawnmower soon and was thinking about a petrol one instead of electric - mostly because I can't be arsed trailing a cable out of the house to use it. Budget is very limited though because I'm going to be skint after moving house.

I've noticed that Tesco, Argos, Homebase etc all have petrol lawnmowers for about £100, all unknown/own brand (Challenge at Argos for example)

Are these a bad idea? I assume it's going to be hard to get spares if ever needed? Anyone got a really cheap petrol mower like these?

As long as your lawn is nice and smooth, you never let the grass get long and you never want to cut it when it's wet. I had one and it used to take an hour or more to mow the lawn, vs 15 minutes with the smallest Honda Izy...
I'm going to the USA for 5 weeks in the middle of the summer.... so I imagine it's going to take a fair bit of cutting when I return hehe

I think you are missing the point. A petrol mover means you can pretend you have a motorbike smile

Also all power tools should be as dangerous and as noisy as possible.
yes

I thought about just strapping some kind of cutting gear to my Picanto (it's about as powerful as a lawnmower) but I can't reach the back garden from the road irked

Hmmm -some mixed views. Let's ask another question - armed with £100 would you buy a cheap petrol mower or a decent spec Flymo?

yep we did- in fact we need to sell our Izy on in the next few weeks (just need to work out if i have cash for a bigger one!)- and that will go on the bay for about £100-125.

Starts first or second pull every time so they ARE out there.

Buy a ride-on TP.

Spend 14 seconds mowing the lawn, then sit back with a beer and feel like a King until the stars come out.
rofl

I don't own a country manor like you unfortunately frown

3 bed 1980s terrace, so the garden isn't exactly massive.

Rented too, so I'll hand in my PH card at the door getmecoat

Much love for the lords of the respective manors but i'm really just trying to give a crappy manual push mower a PH twist here hehe
