Looking for a new front door, the current one doesn't have anything wrong with it other than looking awful (standard fit pvc door)

Want to replace it with something more contemporary looking but the prices I'm finding are ridiculous, anything that looks half decent is about £3-4.5k delivered with no fitting.

Where can I get something good looking for up to about £1.5k delivered?

Plus frame, chippy, assorted contemporary stainless steel hardware was the route we went. Doubt we spend £1K.
Some good stuff there for decent prices. I'd need to have mine painted though or it'll look odd as there'll be cedar cladding above it.

Haha, the quote had delivery at about £1000. I assume for that two guys were carrying it up to Aberdeen by hand!

Christ, just had it clarified that the delivery cost wasn't a mistake. They literally charge £1000 to deliver a door from Cambridge to Aberdeen.

Looks like it's going to be a Hormann for me too, makes sense as my garage will have one when it's built.

Looking at a TPS 015 like this http://www.garagedoorsonline.co.uk/product_details...

Does anyone know if it's possible to have a letter box and spy hole added?

Wow that looks absolutely brilliant! Dare I ask a daft question..... How does it open from outside?! Do you just turn the key to unlock and push the bar? Or is it like an emergency escape and depresses?

That's good to know as my garage will hopefully be up this year, if not next.

I've started reading through your blog too as my house is another 1970s disaster!!

hehe no worries. We must have looked at loads of options and always kept coming back to the Hormanns. They are in a different league from all the other doors we looked at. Matching garage door is going in next month and that was actually cheaper than some of the quotes I've had for 'standard type' garage doors.
Quick q for you mate, I noticed the Hormann looks almost flush fit at the bottom, what kind of clearance is there behind the door for flooring? Would appreciate some pics too if you get the chance?

Appreciate that mate! I think I've sussed it out from the pics. It looks like the bar along the base is approx 20mm deep and the door opens flush with it? So if the door is fixed onto my door step it'll allow for around 20mm deep flooring?

Also, apologies for the billions of questions. No where up here installs them (only garage doors) so I've got to figure out the dimensions myself and order it online!

Contacted Hormann following the advice on this thread (thanks!), now got a guy coming round on Tuesday to size up etc.

Got a feeling it wont get sorted that day because I may need to strip out some pvc ste to get proper opening sizes but the ball's rolling anyway!

Mine's not a renovation as such, just fed up of the god awful pvc front door I currently have biggrin Can only imagine it was thrown in as a freebie when the last owners replaced the windows!

My garage will be built this year or next (my drawings are with the Structural Engineer just now) so it'll get a matching Hormann door. At the moment I'm thinking of doing them both in Anthracite. I did think about the Aluminium white but after looking up the RAL number it almost looks like primer. The odd thing is the missus seems to like it too (that's a first!)

From memory it's a mob in Kintore, garage door and gate co, aberdeen.

I just noticed earlier today a house down the road from me (Milltimber) has a Hormann front door and twin garage doors too!

Hmmm, first thoughts not so good. The guy kept mentioning how expensive the doors are and when I said I'd priced one up at between £1-2k he said it was unlikely that was possible. Shame as I didn't want the hassle of fitting it myself and I thought £2k fitted might be a realistic expectation as the door was working out at approx £1500. I won't give up hope yet though until I hear back from them.

Phoned up garagedoorsonline though and the guy was extremely helpful, I've got a feeling I'll rip off the architrave for some more accurate measurements this weekend and order from them. Shame as I try to support local companies and I'll have a second Hormann entrance door and garage door to buy in the next 12 months.

Aye throw up a pic Zippee.

I would be pretty happy paying list for a fitted door but I've got a feeling they're going to be way off the mark, like yourself I wanted peace of mind that they were responsible for sizing it.

Mine isn't so much of a worry though as the whole exterior of the house is due to be re-rendered when the garage is built, I'll be able fix any discrepancies in the brickwork with a hammer chisel haha.

Also, something else I found is Garador are the exact same doors as Hormann and are made by them, that's an extra few hundred potentially saved there.

And the price is in!

Just under £2900 for a TPS700 fitted, that's just the door no transom lights or side panels. Considering the Garador equivalent is about £1500 online (and Hormann £1700) I won't be supporting local business in this case.

The missus asked what I'll do if it doesn't fit... I could buy another and I still wouldn't be much out of pocket!!

Just double checked and it was an older price list I'd been looking at, the current retail is about £2400 inc vat so it's about £500 for fitting. Still think I'll buy the equivalent Garador, fit myself and save £1-1.5k.

MCSL, that is stunning with the side panels. Love it! I'm going for anthracite grey which attracts an extra £120 but even with that and the SBD upgrade the price is still about £1536 supplied for the Garador equivalent. It's a no brainer for myself to order it online now, especially seeing the reasonable prices you guys have managed to get. Definately makes my quote seem very, very expensive.

Getting them from here http://www.garagedoorsonline.co.uk/index_new2.php?...

I phoned to ask the fella originally if there was any difference between the Hormann and Garador, they are the exact same product. I then asked how easy the doors are to fit, he said they are very easy and that's the reason why they are willing to sell them online. If you need extra clearance for plaster lines you can get 25/50mm extension pieces and if you need to raise the door to suit flooring then you get a 30mm packing strip. They seemed very good when I called, it's not often someone will admit there is no difference between two products when they also sell the more expensive one!

I'm definately getting one for my garage when it's built, look how cheap you can get this for http://www.garagedoorsonline.co.uk/product_details...
