If you were uprating a ride on mower - (relatively sensibly) where would you start ?

Engine, gearbox and axle

Car stuff is too big and heavy.

Bike engine / box seems the obvious choice - presumably older single / twin for low torque.

Rear axle - I'd prefer a diff rather than a bar with a sprocket welded to it

Anyone built anything or know a forum where they do ?

Not for racing just for fun.

Yes

They used a bike engine.

I wasn't aiming quite so high

What are you wanting to achieve?
More power !

Just because.

I've looked at getting a bigger B&S engine and they cost a fortune - hence considering other options.

Quad is definitely a good idea - farm ones fetch good prices though

I have just bought an old Mowermax or something (haven't collected it yet) old metal type with manual box with a mighty 11hp B&S engine - as I didn't want to ruin my Countax.

Basically it's got to tow my trailer and cut the rough areas and generally be abused whilst the Countax mows the lawn.
