At work, we've been offered a house in France as a swap for an ex-Demo 60hp outboard motor worth about £6k.

The house is a tatty Pre-Fab bungalow that needs a lot of work, on about 1/2 a hectare of land with leccy and water already in. It's outside a small village 1/2 hour from St. Malo, not far from us.

Investment for the future, with the likelyhood of Hollande being kicked out shortly?

Nope, the paperwork looks all in order (our local Guernsey lawyers are all French trained as well as UK, takes twice as long to do) it's just that the owner doesn't have the time.

It could be easier to bulldoze it and build a new one for £90k. But as it is, we could use it as a weekender, somewhere to keep the bikes and the Lotus Esprit. We've got enough speedboats/cruisers to be in St. Malo in 20/30 mins.

You could fill it with 60hp outboards... in a few years you'd own the whole of France!
They're black, the Le Pen's wouldn't allow that. biggrin

What is the catch ?
It's a bit of a crap-hole. We have to see if there is any asbestos in it first. A mate's FiL is a builder in the area and says the black economy is strong at the mo for skilled craftsmen. Could be a v quick build project.
