Just getting our garage tiled shortly (72 sqm) and the first quote we've had seems high.

He's quoting £1,600 for 3-4 days work, which seems high to me if you break it down to a daily rate. I'm supply all the materials so looking for labour only.

I normally pay contractors on a daily rate (£150-200) which is a bit higher than normal for our area.

Thanks for the responses.

I wouldn't mind paying those rates for internal work, but an external garage seems like a lot to me.

I've got another couple of quotes tomorrow.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I've always found tiles to be just as much work to stick them down in a garage as it is a kitchen.....
I was thinking more along the lines of a kitchen being more intricate and taking more time.

I've bought the tiles/adhesive/grout/self leveller.

His price is just labour only, but it actually comes to more than all the materials I've bought.

If this is the going rate, then fine. It just seems high to me for the number of days it will take when I compare to what I pay to my plumber/electrician/builder/decorator etc.

He works on his own. We discussed how long it would take him as I've had to organise some storage etc. and need to move everything back in.

The two other guys I had to have a look also normally quote on a sqm basis. They are getting back to me over the next day or two.

I had some exterior tiling done last year, but this can't have been on a sqm rate.
