Morning
Is it neccessary to bed a shower tray on a mortar base if the floor is completely level in the first place?
Cheers Craig

Cheers, but what about a sand and cement mortar mix? Plumber says not neccessary when floor level and tray won't move and mortar can cause problems if it shrinks anyway. Sound plausible but wonder if I'm being fobbed off.

Tray is heavy, 2 man lift. Floor is 19mm chip wood. Tray fitted this morning.

Just noticed on the instructions it says the part of the floor where the tray sits should be cut out and replaced with plywood 18mm or similar. Is 19mm chipboard similar?

Cool, think my plumbers been lazy, thankfully he's got it perfectly level on all sides but I shall be taking it up with the builder tomorrow.

Thankfully that backer board stuff has been used. Granted, this has not been the builders finest hour.

I'm not quite in the £18k spend on a bathroom league.
Thanks for all the advice guys and gals, lots of different opinions, seems clear to me there's no definitive right answer to fitting a bathroom, but I think I can tell who is offering genuine helpful advice.
Cheers

Gents, it was protected, but agreed I wouldn't have put tools there but it was his risk. To put minds at rest I checked tray with a magnifying glass and it's perfect. He just needs to come back and clean up before getting paid for a job well done.

I didn't, plumber fitted tray, badly, as he didn't use ply or sand and cement as per instructions. So does a shower tray come with a guarantee? Against what?

It was an internet purchase about 3 months ago, I think Victoria plumb and I think about £200, but I've had so much going on I forget the minor details. I'm not going to lose any sleep over not having a guarantee on a £200 product and I'm still not sure what a shower tray guarantee would cover, what can go wrong?

Thanks Neil, appreciate that. These are the raised leg instructions so it looks like the tray is solid and will be fine.

Oh well, it's made of concrete and stuck down & me and the wife aren't fattys so I'm satisfied with its stableness. Tilers done a great job with the sealant too despite being paid in peanuts.
