Garden steps - options?

In my garden, there is a tiny bit of lawn 'twixt patio and driveway which is the most direct route from cars to door. It is about 50cm wide, and drops about 30-35cm. It's too much for most people to step over, and can be a bit treacherous when wet.

Obvious solution, some kind of step or steps - but what is the best/easiest option? Preferably something that I could do myself - I'm not a builder by any stretch, but I am competent with the DIY in house and garden.

So - just dig into the slope and use bricks/paving slab and/or decking plank to form step?

What about holding back the newly exposed soil cliff?
