Cutting carpet

I have a lounge/dining room that is carpeted.
I want to lay bamboo flooring in the dining room portion which means cutting the existing carpet.

Is it simply a case of measuring carefully, cutting, then installing some gripper rods along the new edge?
The edging of the bamboo floor will cover this newly-cut edge.
Will this do the trick??
