The tree in question belongs to my neighbour and is planted, established, inside his boundary next to the fence.

It overhangs our driveway and we cut back accordingly when we choose without issue.

It is seemingly allowed to grow on their side by them - never being cut back. Now it is overhanging the pavement just outside my driveway and must be 14 feet tall and a good 8 across. It is causing bird mess on the cars and blocking a bit of light.

I am in the process of discussing with them the possibility of giving it a trim together but just want to know what the legal standpoint is regarding trees at the front at boundaries between none-joined properties.

Wanting to avoid a confrontation on the matter with a fairly well informed yet slightly unreasonable neighbour who is likely quite knowledgeable on the matter given his job.

Any help appreciated.
