Since buying the house its always annoyed me that the loft conversion done a few years back didnt include any front facing windows so had them done today! Well chuffed with the result.

did they NEED to remove all the rafters?
Yep. Rafters were 600 centres, windows are 780mm wide.

Trimmed out by the roofer not a joiner obviously smile
The small boxing at the top is a steel and the wall at the bottom is structural for the bottom half of the roof so the windows are only supporting themselves between two solid elements - the removed tiles were a lot more in weight than the windows too. There isn't another pitched side of the roof sitting on the steel either its a dormer. Think they will be ok but it'll be down to whatever building control says so we will see next week.

What did they cost you? Any reason you didn't go for a dormer? Looks like it could have benefitted
The windows were £1600 including flashings and integral blinds. Labour was two guys for a day plus timber. The whole back is a full width dormer already - not allowed to do it on the front (road facing) elevation. Should be around £2250 once plastered in.

I would have used the dual flashing kits with that configuration. It would save putting tiles/slates between the windows. They look too far apart for this.

Yep live and learn. The flashing's are about 50mm away from each other between each window and as you quite rightly say there is an annoying sliver of tile! I thought they would be far enough apart for a whole tile but didn't work in reality but i should have gotten a triple flashing kit.

What's behind that little door

Looks good
Just some eaves storage behind the little hatch.
