Removing a brick for a letterbox
Discussion
I need to rearrange my postal deliveries - they currently come through the front door but if I'm not here the dog is partial to "opening" items for me.
Basket on the back of the door is not an option (hall is too narrow and the basket would prevent the door opening fully). I could stick a postbox on the wall outside but I'm not overly keen on those. We have a semi-integral garage, the outer half of which is single-skin brick. Can I remove one brick to use as a postbox, with a suitable fitting on the outside, without the wall collapsing?

I have a stair gate about a metre in front of mine. My lab would often retrieve the mail and then hide it to play with later which was especially annoying for missed delivery cards. He was also partial to opening the door and taking himself out for walkies if I missed our usual time.
Yes, that's our current workaround but it does get in the way when you come home!herewego said:
Would it be more convenient to install an outside postbox on the wall near the door.
Yes, definitely the quicker and easier option and I may well end up doing that, I just wondered about the wall option as it would be a neater (and more secure?? For the post, anyway) option.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
