Now then, I'm making a gravel parking area/patch so we can move 2 cars independently. The area I've dug out is 15m2 and I'm wanting 100mm of compacted hardcore then 25mm of top gravel:

How much hardcore in tonnes will I need to fill 15m2 to a compacted depth of 100mm? I'm getting different amounts from each person I've asked so far.

Cheers.

Cheers guys, so 3-4 tonne it is then. To keep the gravel from spilling over I concreted the edging stones a inch higher than the final level.

Just have to let my back recover from laying those 8' sleepers before shifting any hardcore.

Sound. Will see how far i get with 3 tonnes. Can always get another tonne bag dropped off if needed.

Cheapest per tonne(ish) bag I've found is £35. Not sure a tipper could get down the driveway to get loose stuff delivered.

I've got a mone-bros a few miles away so will see how much their bags hold. I know they do good type 1 limestone.

Ps, I'm in north Leeds so if anyone knows of good aggregate sellers to try that'd be appreciated.

Alot of it was grass which was dug up and used to fill the (stupidly large) borders the previous owner had put right around the back garden. But the rest was dumped round the side of the house ready for a skip with all the other bushes and trees we've chopped down.

100-150mm seems to be the amount of hardcore needed when reading guides online etc. A good website is www.pavingexpert.com

Just booked to have 3tonne of 1.5" limestone loose delivered from Mone-Bros for £95, not bad.

Luckily their small tipper is 2.5m wide and the driveway is 2.7m wide, so that's saved me 6-8meters of barrowing.

Cheers for the help.

Well, had delivery of the 3 tonne hardcore at 9:30 and with help from the Bro in law, we had it shoveled, barrowed and raked by 12.

When it was tipped it just didn't look like 3t:

But 3tonne and 4 25kg of 'crusher' I had in the garage later, the whole area was covered with 5/6" depth.

Then went to HSS hire and hired a wacker plate for £45 for 1 day. Got home, made 1 pass and the fking, bd, n*bhead heavens opened and have only just stopped. So now the whole area is soaking so will have to let it dry out and compact it tomorrow morning.

Bit of a low spot bottom right when I tried turning the wacker but it dug in a bit, will get a few 25kg bags and level it all out as I go:

So yeah, rain sucks.

Got it all finished off last week. Ordered a builder sack of 20mm black basalt gravel from stones4homes. Driver pulled up, hung the bag over the area and cut the bottom. Then was just a case of moving it around. Saved me a good hour barrowing it all.

Need to cut a square in the tarmac where rain water collects and fit a catch basin to send it out into the grassed area.
