Quick and simple.

Aside from Dreams. Who else is recommended currently. Looking to spend up to a grand. But will push it a bit of necessary. Bensons any good? Anyone else?

(Not sure if this is the best forum. Houses and DIY seemed a bit vague)

Just a related question that hopefully someone can help with.

I'm quite light (12 stone ish) but find that the only mattresses I like the feel of in the shops are at the extra firm (pockets) end of the spectrum. But then many sites suggest I'm unlikely to need that sort of thing and a mattress should be softer.

All the buying guides I can find just talk about what the are made of. Memory foam, coil sprung, pockets etc. And only 1 site said "Lie on the bed and see if you can get your hand in between the small of the back" If you can it's too firm apparently.

Can anyone suggest a way of choosing firmness? (I've also discovered girls like softer, whilst there isn't 1 imminently I'd hate to have a far too stiff bed ruin chances of a rematch biggrin )

Also not loving the tufted effect (buttons?) on most. Look uncomfortable to me.

NB: Thanks to the person that pointed out beds are bespoke to certain shops. No price matching here! And also I found that Carpetright sell beds as well. Strange. But will they be any better than the others?

I mentioned this earlier, but in case you missed it.... Our Harrison Mattress was made to order, with a firm side for me and a soft side for my wife. Cost about £600 IIRC.
Good price. And the factory bed guys offer sided mattresses as well it seems.

I was more after a way to tell if I should go for a "4 Firm" or a "5 Extra Firm" Is it purely down to what I think lying on it in the shop or is there a more scientific/quantifiable way?
