External table and worktop for cooking

A new patio means I'm dreaming about paella rings, wok burners and barbecues.
I'd like an outdoor worktop table to seat the former and have been thinking about trestles, sleepers, folded metal etc as a base for either a wooden top or indian stone.
If you were building a garden table/worktop what would you do?
