Kettling boiler
Discussion
My boiler's started kettling again. I have British Gas coming on Friday, they've been before for the same issue. I think the thermostat's gone as well because the radiators are extremely hot regardless of boiler setting.
Question is am I doing it any damage running it until they come?

The hot radiators might be a busted 3-way valve.
I wouldn't get BG in to descale a boiler - they'll probably just condemn it and try to sell you a new one. You need a local geezer with some hooch like Fernox.
They've been in before a year ago for the same issue, I have cover. The boiler is 25 years old, they've replaced the pump, the valve off the pump, the fan, the PCB (twice). I think the case and the heat exchanger are the only old parts!I wouldn't get BG in to descale a boiler - they'll probably just condemn it and try to sell you a new one. I'm going scaled up heat exchanger, especially on a 25 yr old boiler.
British Gas have been great, like I said everything has been replaced at no call out charge, all for 12 quid a month. The Fernox I put in quitened it down but the radiators are too hot, I think rfisher is also on the money with the PCB relay. We'll find out on Friday.

Despite BG coming out numerous times before no-one spotted a missing sealing plate so they've cut the boiler off and are trying to find a plate. It's obsolete.
Anyone in a remote chance have an Ideal Classic NF40 Sealing Plate 134048 willing to sell?
Had a look on eBay. Any recommendations for Heating Engineer forums? Seem quite a few on Google to wade through.
If not, new boiler time.

Think I'd still go for Simpo Two's suggestion unless you want a new one. BG have form on boilers spares availability.
Too late, they've been and gone and cut off my boiler because of the lack of a sealing plate. Funny that, they've been out numerous times and never spotted the lack of it before. They're right on availability though, it's an obsolete part, my only (outside) hope is for an engineer to have one unused in his van or garage. Long shot I know.
The boiler's been working since 1992, now BG has said it's unsafe because the plate is missing.
They've never noticed before, is it really unsafe or are they just playing it safe?
It looks like I won't be able to get the plate so it's either a new boiler or could I get a local engineer just to reconnect the boiler and fix the kettling?
My gas supplier is BG.

Well bit the bullet and got a new boiler, Scottish Gas came in with a quote which I thought was a reasonable 2570 for a coventional Worcester Bosch with Hive control. Also the 15 pounds a month I was paying for no call out fee cover is free for the first year, they also fitted a new immersion heater.
They were pretty good these last few years, always next day fitted a lot of new parts, pump, zone valve, fan and 2 PCBs.
Wish I'd done it years ago, the new boiler is almost silent, now I can work in peace on the dining room PC without the constant clicking of the relay.
I have a large open plan living room/dining room which to heat would be OK but the problem is the open staircase which is where all the heat goes, with this Hive system I can set whatever temperature I like, the apps pretty cool too.

Told you They'd condemn it if you had one too many apples in your fruitbowl.Still, £2,570 for a new cover plate seems a bargain
