I wasn't entirely sure where to post this, but...

I'm trying to dispose of the interior of my track car. My local council tip won't take it, the nearby scrap yard isn't interested (even after I suggested I would pay) and i'm not interested in illegally dumping it or burning it!

A skip seems disproportionately expensive, so are there any other options I might have missed before I give up and order a skip?

Thank you!

What make & model of car is it?
Would a specialist for that make and model be interested? Could a dealer help you recycle it (in exchange for buying some parts for the car from them)?
Put an advert on Freecycle (or whatever it is called theses days) - I'm sure someone, somewhere can use it.
Failing that, cut in into pieces and drip feed it into your household rubbish.
Clio 172.

I've sold a couple of bits from it, but most of it has been butchered when being removed or there has been no interest on eBay (e.g. rear seats).

This is a full strip, dash, air con, heater, everything, so a surprising number of boxes of stuff.

I would if it wasn't so much! But full dash etc. and our bin is always full on bi-weekly pick ups.

Our local tip tend to take general waste bags from you and rip them open to take a look. It might be worth a shot, but I'd need to use a jigsaw to get a lot of it down to a usable size.

Council pickup I have used before - it is £10 for one item and £8 for each item after that. This means each individual part would count as an item! Last time, a carpet was one and the underlay was another. Not good.

Like I've said, the council tend to look through a lot of the household bags when they are going in general waste at the tip, but there is a good chance of getting a decent quantity in that way.

When I took the car apart, there wasn't much regard for condition as I looked at parts prices and things were surprisingly cheap. I've sold the (aftermarket) headunit and the full set of standard speakers, but seats, parcel shelf etc. didn't sell. They are all stored outside now, so not in much of a position to sell...

I will have a think, cheers everyone.

That handy fence is my garden laugh

We haven't been moved in long, so a skip might be useful to get rid of more stuff. I've a neighbour I may ask if he wants to go halves on one. Or it is jigsaw time and piece by piece disposal.

STOP THE PRESS!

Solution found. Spoke to my local garage and they've done me proud. Will take all the stuff off my hands and shove it in a car to be scrapped - FOC! It might help that they have one of our cars in there for some serious work at the moment.

Our tip doesn't take paint, tyres etc. either. In fact, they heavily limit soil/hardcore, so not ideal when doing garden renovation. I do feel that fly tipping is likely to be higher when they make it more difficult. This is South Kesteven district council.

Next time you have something like this, if you don't mind driving an hour or so, come and use the tip near us, Brixworth Recycling Centre in Daventry District Council area. They take everything including paint, timber, hardcore, rubble, engine oil, car batteries, everything. Even better, if it can be recycled, they will. Whenever I take stuff, I separate metals and hard plastics as they're both recycled. They also have a reuse area so if there's anything that can be saved, they will. They're also very helpful and will help you unload if you're on your own and struggling. If you let me know in advance, I'll come and give you a hand as I only live a few minutes away. beer
Very nice, thank you.

It does get crazy - If 'society' makes something we should be able to dispose of it...... Ah hangon! Isn't it a manufacturer's requirement now to recycle? Take it to the manufacturer's agent biggrin
Crazy things happen... When we moved in 13 years ago OH wanted internal doors changed (I agreed). 5 doors in car and at tip I was told I could only dump 1. I asked "what to do with other 4?" 'You can bring them back 1 a week' "why only 1 a week" 'It's to save the environment' "but won't me driving back and forth ruin the environment?" 'You can only dump 1 door!". So next week I took all handles and hinges off, and rolled up with a car full of wood! 'Are they doors mate?' "Just some bits of wood" 'Ok just put them in the skip over there' laugh Crazy. If we create a throwaway society we have to suffer the waste issues.
Someone I know was refused entry to a tip because the small trailer attached to their Orion (it was a while ago, although not that long!) had four wheels rather than two. He had to either go home and move it all into his two wheel trailer, or, walk all the bits through from outside the premises by hand.

I was once refused entry to our local tip on foot (by a rude jobsworth from the council), because you were only permitted to arrive by car due to "health and safety". I was going to ask why there was a footpath if you weren't allowed to use it, but thought better of it.
I was thinking that as I was writing. I would say that is probably the case now, but this was over 10 years ago.

I've heard that in some places in the US, they weigh your car before you enter and then when you leave and calculate a cost of what you just dumped. I'd be okay with a small charge for certain items, so long as you could actually dispose of them. I'd worry the price would heavily outstrip the rate of inflation, though.

Ah I never even considered Gratham. Didn't know it was in S Kesteven. I was just thinking of friendly garages in Stamford.
One parliamentary constituency, too! Not that people in Stamford would be too pleased about that...

I forgot to mention that... ours is only open four days a week, too.
