Dog rehoming and future contact

Short but sweet question: is it distressing for a dog to have occcasional contact with it's previous owners after being rehomed?

The reason for asking this is due to a change in work location and patterns, so it might be that my girlfriend's dog needs to be rehomed. However, there is someone who lives near who might take the dog, so they could very well (and probably will) bump into each other from time to time; no issues with neglect or any other negatives at all - it's purely about what's best for the animule, and how it would react.
