Here we go...the very first pic of what I hope will be my faithful companion for many thousands of miles across the country. I will not meet her for another six weeks or so, and have to pick her up in Provo, Utah. As she grows and changes...which she assuredly will, I will post a progression. Her breeder sent me this pic. Hard to believe that this will be a Great Dane............

Many indeed...I have to drive her nine hours back from Provo Utah to Scottsdale AZ in December...I will have to put plastic everywhere in the Jeep and stop often. Danes do grow quickly though, apart from the brain part, so will be fun to see the progresssmile

Admittedly, very fierce-looking at this stage.....

Growth continues...this was weaning week.. The adult dog is not the parent . Pick up Dec 22, by which time she will possibly have doubled again....the ears will NOT be cropped...

She's absolutely gorgeous. Do you have name for her yet?
Shiloh.

I wanted a name that sort of reflected the open American West, where she will spend all of her future winters. By Spring, she will be taking her inaugural run up on 66 for new adventures. Danes take two years to grow fully, so it will an experience.

Never heard of such a thing. What is the point of it?
Common in the US. Of course, tail dropping is common on other dogs such as boxers. In any case, I have always preferred the natural ears, and cropping is less popular than it used to be.

Even as I look forward to the monster that ail shortly eat shoes, drive my crazy and then become a constant companion, there is always the awareness that these big dogs are sadly brief visitors, and I have said my goodbyes many times. Its still worth it.

I saw this vid recently about the life and death of a Dane....must have been a very dusty room when I watched it......

We have become a very good traveller already..relaxed and clean in the car. At home, on the other hand...constant surveillance, as bladder and bowel control are still very iffy in a 9 week old pup

Will see the dog again soon, And it is now double in size..pics in a week or two....

In the meantime, here is a video that gives you an idea of just how utterly moronic the breed is. There is a reason they're not in circuses.....
