Time to let her go.
Discussion
Well after four years our rescue German Shepherd, Petra will go to the vet for the last time.
She's almost twelve now so not bad for a GSD but it is with tear in my eyes and a heavy heart that I type this.
I know its for the best but I am dreading it like I have dreded nothing else in my life before.
There is no option. I can't let her suffer.
She is such a gentle soul has converted many to liking GSD's and a softer gentler dog you could not find.

Well I have to say I feel a bit of a fraud. Within an hour of taking her to the vet Petra rallied and her breathing settled. No idea why.
She has eaten something and is interested in treats and a ball so our trip to the vets meant we cam home with a dog and more antibiotics.
Even the Vet cannot believe how much more life she has.
So for now

Thanks for all the good wishes.
Rest assured that this was not a panicky owner false alarm as Petra has been on borrowed time for some time as she has lung issues (Bullae on one lung and a tumour in the other compounded by a persistent infection and a cyst) The vet reckons she has about 20-30% normal lung capacity.
Even the vet was amazed at the difference compared to our visit yesterday.
Tonight she has taken lots of treats but turned her nose up at her dinner - mind you a tin of pilchards resolved that problem and she is now a well fed 12 year old pup

Well Petra has spent most of the day in the garden (her favourite place) sat on the decking watching me work (her favourite pastime) and generally being spilt rotten.
Specially cooked chicken and rice for dinner tonight and although she's a little subdued (even for her as she's a very placid and quiet dog anyway) we have seen tails wagging and she was leaning into having her ear rubbed.
She's OK for now and that's the main thing.
One day at a time now.
Thanks to all for reading my ramblings.
