Just found this fella flapping around in the garden (well he flapped around when I disturbed him inadvertently). He flew away at one point, then came back round an alder tree where I guess the nest is and just sort of crash landed in a heap.

Looks youngish to me, too weak to fly properly? Haven't got a clue what make and model it is.

I don't know much about these guys except that if I'd left him there one of the local cats would've got him. What do I do? Give it food and water, keep it in the box for a few days and let it go or just let it go now and let it take its chances?

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm in France and not only do they not give much of a damn about animals here but it's August and everything is closed.

I put some pieces of walnut in the box, should I give it some water? Does it look young to you? My worry is that it's damaged itself.

Thanks for the replies (even MBH's rubbish one tongue out). It would appear I owe the Frenchies an apology and have found a bird sanctuary open 7/7 even during August. Will be taking the little guy up there this evening.

Good man.
Told you I loved animals, just those pesky sharks I'm not keen on wink

hehe The recovery was indeed swift, I went into the room this morning to put a dish of water in the box (couldn't get to the shelter yesterday) and it was on the floor out of the box. As soon as it saw me it panicked and flew into the closed window (here we go again) but I managed to grab it and take it outside.

It was screaming bloody murder so the food and rest must have done it some good. A little boost into the air and it was off.

Good luck little guy!
