best advice to stop my Golden pulling on his lead

Have a 9 month old Golden and he is great - comes back pretty well but gets excited on the first part of the walk and pulls.

Now every time he pulls I just stop. this has worked a bit, now want to really put an end to it.

Any suggestions, thanks
